Ok Heres the deal. I just got a brand new in the box O2 eliminator made for an external wastegate. This piece was made at FP. I currently have a small ported 16. I bought this piece because Im going to go with a Green within the next couple months. The thing is Id like to be able to use it now. Is it possible to hook up a 40mm Tial and leave it "open" so I can still use the internal on my 16g? I say this because my money will be spent on a Indy Race Cores FMIC before I get to the green and my current 1g manifold is thrashed and needs to be replaced.

Thanks,
Andrew

Nope. If I were you I would wait til the turbo swap to install the new O2 housing. Pulling the stock O2 housing with out taking off the turbo can be a real pain in the a$$. I would just wait. If you can't wait you would have to take out the 16G and remove the wastegate flapper and just use the 40mm tial.

Yeah I had the manifold, turbo, and o2 housing out of the car last month. Would taking the flapper out of the 16g be permanent? Ive thought about this before but Id like to sell the 16g when the Green comes around and not many people wanna buy a 16g they have use and external with :). So I just wanna make sure the flapper can go back in the turbo when I go to sell it. If thats the case Ill just remove the flapper from the 16g :)

I removed the actuator and used something to held it fully open
so the gas will go to the external wastegate.. That's what you should do is to use the external gate instead of the doing the opposite.

But note you may get boost creep because the passage for the original flapper may not be big enough.

why not just take the WG off.... & use the internal gate? You could build a dumptube to mount where the tial WG normally goes. Would prolly cost you like $20-30 to make...

Also O2 housing is really simple to get off the car while still leaving the turbo attached. Just undo the ring clamp that hold the exhaust housing to the center cartridge, take out the 4 turbo to manifold bolts (remove the stud if it's still in there & replace it w/ a bolt), remove the pin in the WG actuator, remove the 2 DP nuts & it should come off really easy. Be very careful till you clear the turbine wheel. I have have exhaust side off in like 15 minutes if I'm slow.

Ken I called up FP and actually asked Rob if he could build me a dump tube that bolts up to the WG flange on the O2 housing and he said yes but couldnt build it without me sending him the O2 housing. I figure by the time I pay for shipping there and back plus the cost of the dumptube it prob wouldnt be worth it. Im going to check around locally and see if somebody could build me one.

I assume he does not want to remove the flapper or port it out because he wants to sell his turbo with the internal gate intact in the future.

I am leaving the flapper open with a custom metal rod holding it up, and it does not get in the way at all... (only the hole is not ported out like it should) I get creep when it's cold enough and trying to run 12 PSI, but higher boost and warmer weather it's no problem. This will cost you nothing if you really incline to put this on right now.

IMO You should wait until your new turbo, there is not much to gain unless you have too much time and nothing to do..
