We were installing some hard pipes in a friends 90 laser turbo.

His stock side mount was corroded at the top, so I gave him mine. Its the stock one from a 92 TSi. Went to through it in, and noticed that the necks are completely different.

Whats up with this? Is there any easy way to still make it work?

Why is it different too, one is shorter, and the mounts are different....

Thanks.

The major points being. The intakes and outlets are bigger on the 2g. They allow better flow. BUt the 1g core is a little bigger. The other point in the brackets is that both bodies are different. So in turn they had to change the brackets for each smic. The 2g is a better pick IMO. Just bigger outlets to let the turbo breath.

To make the 1g smic work. Im sure you can just cut the neck to the position of the 2g smic. After all there not flipped 180* or anything so little modifaction is needed. Or you can just change your piping.

Both his sidemounts are 1g,not 2g.Ive noticed that auto and 5 spd intercoolers are a little different. The intake pipe on the bottom of the ic is more of an angle and shorter on the auto cars.So much so it wouldnt work on my 5spd without getting a longer licp.

They are both 1g's dude...

Ha..Yaa..Both 1g's.

But mine is an auto, his 5-speed. That may be the reason then.

Thanks for the input.

We should be able to get the pipe to reach, it jsut didnt seem like it wanted to mount. I guess if its been done then I should be able to make it work.

Any info for easy install would be nice if you got it.
Thanks again.

I know when I tried to install the auto one on my 5spd,I think only 1 bolt hole lined up.The one in the side I believe.I wouldnt see a problem with 1 bolt and the ic pipes holding it in place.I mean those old skanky bolts break easy and Im sure a lot of people run 1-2 bolts after taking the ic off and cleaning it.Maybe you could make a custom licp or just extend the one on the car now to make it work.
