i live in PA and we need catylytic converters for emissions.
How much louder is an exhaust w/ a test pipe vs. a cat, because i'll probably just put the cat on for inspection.

not really louder jsut higher pitched less bassy, you have OBD 1 take off you cat hollow it out and weld a pipe in they will never know plus you cant dyno anywhere near you because the closest AWD dyno is in cleveland i believe

i ran my N/A civic w/o a cat and had a test pipe on, it was notcieably louder but also made more hp. what you should do is find a test pipe that is easy to bolt in so when emissions testing time comes around you can just swap it in. i bought a test pipe that was made to look like a high flow cat so if i got pulled over i would be ok

BM tranny In NJ has an AWD dyno. and a test pipe is crazy HP. On a stock 2g dynoed almost 38 Hp with a test pipe.

dunndilly: I used to live in PA (Allentown), and you should not have any problems with the police. As for inspection/emmision, I have a bolt on high flow that I use. :) If you do want to dyno check out: Xotic Motorsports .. A bunch of us were there last weekend. You can check out some pics on my site.

Its not really that noticable until you go WOT. Then it is louder.

We don't have emissions checks anywhere that I am aware of...well at least not in the part of PA that I live in.

As far as inspection just ask around with other car enthusiasts in your area and I'm sure you could find someone that will inspect your car without you having to put out the money to buy a cat just for inspection.

My buddy has a test pipe, and I have a hi flow cat. I think his car is MUCH louder. Especially at WOT. It even gave me a headache a few times, LoL. Or it could've not been enough sleep...but....:D

Just by riding in his car though, I can tell his car is faster due to the test pipe. I'll stick with my hi flow cat though. I'm happy with it. :)
