cut it equally horizontally into two parts, weld on new end tanks so it would be half the hiegt but twice the thickness

cause the endtanks on this suck

would it work? and how would i cut the core in two?

That looks Like a Ford power stroke intercooler. Any intercooler work as long as it fits.
I don't think it will fit under your bumper.

yeah i forgot to mention its from the 7.3L ford powerstrock

but i was planning to cut it in have horizontally and make it twice as thick

it will cost a ton of money to get it cut because you destroy the header that the endtanks are on. i tried this once and the shop said it was more cost effective to go with a new unit.

If you have friends who can do it for a cost effective amount. Then it a good deal.

Most of the time it's cheaper to buy one from IRC.

the endtanks mount on the cores header plate, once damaged its expensive to fix. i went through this myself and decided to just buy a new intercooler. what are the demensions of that intercooler anyway?

how will it damage the the header if i only cut the fins and not the tube part i would like to cut that intercooler in half horzontally and make it half the height and twice the thickness then the dimensions of the core would be 30 inches across, 9 inches high, and 4 inches thick with new endtanks that i will make from scratch

But if he's making new endtanks...would that matter?

So would that in essence, make it a 2 core IC?

ya thats the question if im making end tanks from scratch but will i have any clearence problems with this 2 core 4-4.5 nch thick monster?

i think there is plenty of clearance with the bumper removed. if you can get the header and end tanks welded up cheap, do it, my shop wanted just as much money to do it all as an intercooler that was brand new and garunteed not to leak would cost......so i went new

Hey Optiks,

Can you keep tabs on how much everything will run you? This looks like a good DIY project for myself as well...
