Ok I searched and searched but found nothing on the topic, so here goes my post...

I've seen people that setup their 02 dumps to exit out the side of the bumper (just infront of the driver's side wheel). I always liked the way that looked, plus I was always afraid of melting something important inside the engine bay. But I was wondering if their was a company that makes this dump or what because I noticed that every car I've seen like that, has the same metal guard that goes around the hole where the pipe comes out. Also if anyone with first hand experience can tell me how loud this makes it...I mean on one hand, it's not echoing off the ground; But on the other, it's closer to the driver's window, so I wonder how loud it would be when you drive around with the window down? O and does anyone have pictures of a car with this setup? thanks.

It will be loud, you will not hear the turbo or BOV once it opens, it really isn't that bad IMHO unless you're right beside a construction barrier or wall, then its deafening.

There was a thread with a bunch of open dump vids, though I can't seem to find it. Here is a low quality vid of mine from a SRT. The vid sucks, the sound dosen't line up with the video properly, but damn it brings a smile to my face every time I watch it. Reminds me of better days when I wasn't 5K miles from home and my car was in one piece and running.

Here is a pic of mine taken at the GMU meet years ago, no metal plate, just a nice stainless tip. I have never had any melting issues, I just make sure nothing touches it.

They are all custom peices, its realy not that hard at all to do. You just need to find a good route for the dump tube through the engine bay and then cut the bumper slight to large for the pipe. Cut your square metal protection peice and bolt it to your bumper with the hole just large enough for the dumb tube and bam you have side exit dump. It really doesn't matter where you dump the external gate its going to be ####ing loud as hell.

Well I've heard external dumps before (a friend had one, punishment racing) and it was loud but I could stand it. I just wonder if routing towards the driver's side window is going to make it unbearable as it is a daily driver and I don't have A/C, so in the summer I drive just about everywhere with my windows down.

forcefedred: haha I love that screen name. Nice video...yeah that's more or less what I'm talking about. I just want a metal plate on the bumper where the dump exits (something a little better looking than an out of place square), but that should be easy enough to fab.

JESSE!!!!! WHAT'S UP DUDE! HOW ARE YOU MAN?

Anyway, mine still sits that way too. loud as hell. I love it though, shoots one hell of a flame under the right conditions. It scares the shit out of people on my right.

you mean your left? or id you somehow route the piping all the way to the passenger's side? Yeah I saw forcefedred's video with the flame shooting out of the dump...was pretty cool.

Wow that looks NICE, I have been debating gettin a dump because of the boost creep control and your setup looks real nice, It hides into the silver strip really well and the tip is perfect. Did you cut the tip to be at the right angle of the bumper or the one you got just simply fit right?

And paul...I saw your rim and tire add in the latest Turbo magazine...yup it's on the dorm wall LOL

An external wastegate with it dumped to atmosphere and an internal gate dumped to atmosphere sound completely different. Second unless you are boost all the time the wategate will be closed so there won't be any noise comming out of the pipe. Only during full boost would you hear the incredibly obnoxious sound.

99gst_racer, I do have a pic or two of the flex I used from the wastegate outlet to the hard pipe, it seemed like a cheap way to do it but turned out working great and allowing for engine movement. That connects to some steel tubing that has the stainless tip welded on, it is all bolted solid to the undercarriage. It's a little tight down near the oil filter with that tube, and a 2.5" IC pipe, but works great. Unfortunately I do not have access to those photos now, but I'm working on it.

SilverJester, if you want to chat about it or have any more questions, hit me up on AIM, same name, I get quite bored here. Thanks for the kind words also.

Hey Martin, I'm alright, living it up in Kosovo earning some of that tax free money at the moment, ready to get home and get the car back together.

zachakagoat, a external dump may not be the answer to your boost creep problem depending on your setup. I thought this years ago when I had an old Buschur stage 3 S16G (man I miss that turbo) and the external did nothing but make noise, it still creeped due to my tiny wastegate. Quick fix was using the flapper out of a t-25 and enlarging the 7cm^2 wastegate hole. This completely took care of my problem at the time but later on reared its ugly head when I was trying to run high boost in the form of wastegate blow open. There's always a catch right. :) Now if the problem is a restriction in the wastegate passage in your O2 housing, the external dump should solve the problem, at another price, loud noise when the wastegate is open. Also smaller turbos spoll fast, and will have the wastegate open a lot more than a larger slower spooling turbo, it can get annoying, take my word for it. Might not be for everyone, or a daily driver, but I like it. The tip has a bit of time in it, I spent quite a few hours with a grinder and belt sander until I was satisfied with the profile. It started as a 1 7/8 inch straight stainless pipe and ended up what it is.

So far I like my external dump on my b16g. I ported the turbine housing and opened up the wastegate hole, no creep what so ever. It takes some getting used to. It does like to come open often though, I can't keep my foot off of the gas. Too bad you car is in peices Jesse, I could go up to your house and get some pics of the setup. But that problem will be resolved in a couple months.
