I just wanted to start a thread about racing fuel. What octane to use 100 or 110, leaded or not and so on.

To get it started I picked up a couple gallons of leaded 110 to run at the track on wed. How much should I dillute it? What can I turn my boost up to (I'm running 16psi on 92 pump)? And any other stuff I should know or watch out for. Thanks

Mike

leaded fuels are really hard on your 02 sensors. so make sure you dont run it for any more than your time at the track.

and with 3 gallons of 92 pump and one gallon of 110 you will be running 96.5 octane. and with 2 gallons of 110 you will be running 99.2 octane. personally i would go somewhere inbetween. you can turn up the boost a few psi with the extra octane, so its kind of a double effect. if you want a fuel that isnt hard on 02 sensors buy toulene. you can get it at any paint store and its about 120 octane or so. anyways, have fun at the track. :)

Thank you! That was the type of response I was looking for. I will probably turn my boost up to 17-18psi and try and hit a mid 13. I ran a 13.8 last week with a full tank of 92 and full interior. I will post the differences I get with the fuel in there.

well with 3 gallons of 92 and one gallon of 116 it would be 98.0 octane. and with 2 gallons it would be 101.6 octane.

the equation is easy. take how many of gallons of gas and times it by the octane rating. like 3galx92oct.=276. then take the race gas and add it to it. 276+116=392. then divide that by the number of total gallons 392/4=98.0

thats basically it. anyone can calculate thier octane rating pretty easily.

Larry: The big advantage of c-16 is not the extra timing advance it’s the fact that you can run significantly more boost. 94 octane can only support so much power before you start knocking. I know that in my car I can get away with running 22 lbs but on c-16 I can run about 27-28 psi on the same settings and I can play with stuff some more and probably run 30lbs. If you want to run race gas I would get the tank as empty as humanly possible and then add your gas. It would be silly to lower the octane of your 6/gal gas. It is hard on your o2 sensors I remember that the last time I added leaded gas my a/f gauge was noticeably slower reacting but after about 30 miles with normal gas mixed in it was much better. But it isnt going to instantly kill your 02 sensor. My friend only runs c16 in his Talon and he replaces his 02 sensor maybe once a year.

I have used 104 octane in the past. It is still unleaded so it wont have any effect on the 02 sensor. I always used it as an extra precaution when I raced at summit point. If I were going to use 104 at the track I would only add a lb or two more boost.

hey man if you just fill up with mainly unleaded 104, (like 60-75%) then you will get about 96-100 octane gas. i would either go that way or buy some toulene (if its not too expensive) that stuff is like 120 or so octane. and its safe. the older turbo f1 cars used to run a 85% toulene mix. now that is way too much for our cars but a 20-30% mix is ok.

Why would you want to run toluene when you could actually run a gas formulated to work in your car that works just as well? Im just not comfortable filling up my car with a paint can from home depot especially when it costs about the same.

i really dont know why i like to run toulene. well actually our track here only sells leaded so that is a reason. and the fact that its a cleaner burning fuel. and takes less to raise your octane rating since its 120 octane. i would run unleaded race gas if we had it.
