Since my engine is apart is it worth getting my crankshaft knife edged and balanced or turn anf polish? I saw it up on Bushur's website. What's the difference from the two and which one would be better for me. I am leaning towards the knife edge and balance.

Here is a quick run down of my mods:

Knife edge and ligtening are often done together. Knife edge is to let the crank spin through the oil better (not in the pan the oil suspended in the crank case often refered to as windage). It basically shapes the counterbalance of the crank like a teardrop for lower coefficient of drag.

Lightening is pretty obvious. Removing weight. Similar effect as removing weight from the flywheel although not as noticable because the material is closer to the rotational axis.

Note that you cannot Knife edge the crank w/o removing mass. But you may have to add mass to achieve a balanced rotating assembly.

In either case you have to get the rotating assembly balanced. In the end I don't think it is worth your money to do the lightening or the knife edge, but I wouldn't assemble a bottom end w/o a complete rotating assembly balance.

BTW: Your not to patient are you?

I'd like to have my crankshaft journals and thrust bearing surfaces mircopolished and then also have the crank balanced. Where would you guys recommend I send my crank for these services and can you give me a ballpark figure as to what I should be looking at to get this done? Thanks in adavance.

Anybody ever use Jackson Auto Machine? They quoted me $160 to polish the bearing journals and thrust bearing surfaces and then balance my crank. I thought that was a pretty good price, but I was just wondering in anyone has had any actual experience with them?

Holy hell!
Brought back from beyond the dead! LOL

But yeah that seems like a pretty good price.
