guys i am trying to make my tsi a sleeper. however exhaust is somthing i should really look into getting. but i want my exhaust silent as possible and a rusty exhaust tip coming out the back. instead of a full exhaust system. how about if i had no cat and 3inch piping all the way from turbo to muffler. then place a 3inch Y cutout so i can just exit all the exhaust out of the actual piping when im ready to race it. would this be as effective? i mean i really dont want anyone to know there are any mods to the car...

yeah but i really dont wanna be classified as another ricer with loud exhaust and i dont need to spend money where its not ABSOLUTELY necessary you know? ;) plus i plan on like ducktaping a rusted out tip on the back that sways around while i drive. plus id be kinda kewl to pull the lever and hear my engine whisper then scream and have the guy next to me be like huh? but yeah i just dont want anyone to have any clue whats under the hood. or even that i know what "modding" is

thanks :dsm:

I see, buy an exhaust cutout then. When you flip the switch the exhaust gas in free flowing like a straight pipe. But you would want to keep the cat, if you don't it will be loud as hell anyway all the time.

do a series of straight through resonators to keep the sound down with a pos tip on the end

LOL as for being ghetto. LOL thats the goal. i want a car that looks like total junk and then you pop the hood and see the jewalry under the hood:) ive always wanted to build a car like that. and i have a very nice car to drive the rest of the week so its no big deal for me.

as for the exhaust. i would want to pull the cat then and get two resonaters with 3'' inch inlets and put them on like this

turbo-----cutout---res, res--muffler--tip using 3inch pipe right?

where can i score some resonators for cheap? ebay?

U'ld need to do a "y" pipe infront of the cat and rest of exhaust. Although The theory is plausable, trying to find a valve of some sort that would seal the "y" pipe and withstand the temps are beyond my knowledge. I've tossed around that idea before, but most of our cars (in general) at idle aren't really any loader than an eclipse with the stock setup. If u are shooting for the sleeper look, y not toss them a loop and feed then their rice too ;) Honestly, the look of a nice exhaust system really adds to the car rather than classify it as another "riceboy". For the most part u can tell the difference between the ones that look purposeful and those that are cheap knock-offs (shine, finish, quality) and besides your's wont sound like an Angry Bumble-Bee

Just get a buschur 3" exhaust, add a inline resonator, and replace the muffler with a magnaflow. Paint it black, and slap on some dual tips. No one will even look at you.

but seriously, someone else said it "everyone and their mother has an exhaust" so if you go around town w/ an exhaust i don't think anyone is gonna think much of it, no matter what it sounds like. there really isn't any need to go all out and spend all this money on making a completely custom exhaust w/ y pipes and resonators... but maybe its not so expensive for you cause you got some kinda hook up or you can do some of it yourself. i dunno. i guess its up to you how far you wanna take it. anyway, that was just my 2 cents. good luck w/ your project and don't forget to post pics when you're done. :thumb:

the buschur is too expensive to be a pos...go with resonators and aluminized steel pipe sticking out...should rust up a little bit, especially at the welds. for the flapper on the cutout, use one of the rain flappers that are on top of semi's fit it witha heavy spring to keep closed and use a windshield wiper motor or other electric actuator to open with the push of a button (kinda like an electric wastegate for your exhaust)

you could start out with making you own 2.5 down pipe section with flex. trace out an exhaust flange outside edge with the right diameter hole and have a local metal shop plasma or laser cut it out. you can overlap a 3in strait pipe just before the transfer case. after that you will need two 3in mandrel bends out to a $50 magnaflow muffler with dual tips that can be painted black with two cheesy chrome tips. this all costs about 4 or 5 hundred. all you would need is an exhaust shop that will overlook the cat that kills turbos anyway. oh by the way its not that loud

If your car looks "ghetto" you think anyone is going to pull up to you and be like wanna race? because if i saw it looking like a beater I wouldnt even rev at it... just my .02 cents
