6bolt swap map sensor question

I doing a 6bolt swap with 1g head and intake manifold. the map sensor on my 2g intake manifold can I leave it off on should I plug it in and let it hang there? Or am I missing something.

Are you keeping the rest of your emissions? If not, then just leave it off. You'll probably get a cel, but it's nothing to worry about...unless something else does go wrong while you already have the cel. But if you're keeping your egr and stuff, then I'm not sure what you need to do, I know the answer's in here somewhere.

Not too hi-jack the thread - I have DSMLINK and i took out all of my emmissions and A/C... so there will be a lot of stuff gone. the MAP only has to do with EGR/Charcoal stuff?

I've heard it is also used for "limp mode", like when you blow an IC pipe off. It is actually called an MDP, but MAP is easier and more common terminology.

I actually have a 1g intake mani that i have modded at my work by welding a .5 " aluminum plate on top of it and the drilling three holes, one so the sensor could fit in and i tapped the other two. It worked fantastic and looked good too. I have it for sale if your interested because i just got a forrester intake. I need some money because my clutch disk blew up when i started to turn up the boost. Throw me an offer.

Definitely the route to go. I know the guy that makes the parts. Great parts. They are now sold at DsmParts.com as well.

It doesn't read absolute pressure, just a change in pressure when the EGR opens. It's only purpose is to make sure the EGR is working correctly.

For the user that has DSMLink, you can disable the whole EGR system so you won't have to worry about the MDP, EGR, Evap, whatever.

it has an effect on the fuel map - and even with a dsmlink- i think it will
throw a CEL if you loose it.
Seeings how its not that much effort to keep it -- why not just keep it ?
You can burry it under the intake mani and never see it.

You won't get a cel with it gone. I've ZERO emissions components, no map sensor hooked, running dsmlink, and no cel.

It senses a change in pressure when the EGR opens, that's it. It's not a MAP sensor like a Honda has. If it doesn't see a change in pressure, you get a CEL for a malfunctioning EGR.

Most of us with DSMLink cut that sensor off the harness and use the input to log boost or WB02. You won't get a CEL and when you disable the EGR, you effectively disable the MDP along with it.

Take the line for your brake booster and T in a line for the MPD sensor. Now take and run a line from the T to the MPDI sensor. No need to hook up anything special it just needs vaccuume. Had it like that on my car now for a year. I took a hose barb fitting and used the spark plug wire cover from a set of plugs the coil end. So the cover fits over the mpdi semsor and just tie wire it the big end the small end goes to the vac line its the perfect reducer and works mint.

I did the very same thing when I swapped from 2g -> 1g. I kept if because of not only emissions, but because of what the WISEMAN-dave99gst said. It doesn't help with just EGR but that was a good tool when it came to tuning my car.

Ok, two people claiming it effects fuel maps. Please fill the rest of us in on what a differential pressure sensor does to effect our fuel maps.

A little research off DSMTuners reveals not only that the MDP is only for checking EGR operation, but also this:

The factory MDP sensor is used to "check" on the operation of the EGR valve... ...The factory MDP sensor does not register much above (if at all) atmospheric pressure.

If the MDP can't even read above atmospheric pressure, how is it going to effect fuel maps?

i ran a vac line to it, and i got better fuel economy and WOT felt tighter.

in my expierence, the presence of the sensor was better, than not.

Placebo effect Unless you logged a difference that proves ECM Tuning(DSMLink), RRE, the DSM-ECU list, and the rest of the technically advanced minds out there, that is just hearsay and shouldn't be posted. If the EGR just plain wasn't functioning with out it, that could possibly lead to better gas milage but it's a fact that it has abosulty no effect on WOT.

Tell us how then. Did your car convert to a part time speed density mode while the cruise control was activated and without the "map" sensor it couldn't access the right fuel maps? WTF

I should ditch the GM 3bar and wire an MDP sensor back in to get better fuel economy?

im thinkin about gettin one but im not understanding what i hook up where once i get it....? obviously the 2g plug goes in one end but what else?

and for what its worth, the mitsu dealership had said my car was running lean because i dont have the MDP/MAP sensor hooked up.
