stafford,
I asked before about purchasing a FMIC, and I'm curious about what good a FMIC can do for a stock set up.

If I were to purchase a better FMIC, in hopes of later getting a much better / bigger turbo, would it matter at the time... as in hurting my performance?

Or are there FMIC's that can hook up to the stock set up and still be good for much greater HP numbers?

Thanks,

Marty :)

Yeah, agreed. A stock setup isn't going to see really any difference with an FMIC. The stock SMIC isn't the limiting factor at the moment. Fuel is probably the biggest thing holding your car back. I'd look for, in this order: Boost Gauge, MBC (you can go to 15 psi or so on the stock setup, but be careful, every car is different, you'll want to either buy or borrow a datalogger when you turn up the boost, a datalogger is a great investment anyway, and you'll need one in the future), exhaust.

However, getting a FMIC certainly wouldn't hurt you any, especially if you get one of the setups with the very short intake routing pipes. Hard IC pipes are a good thing to get. If you are just determined to get one (they do look real sweet) you won't be doing any harm.

Thanks. I did have a MBC, the one that you turn the knob... but the screw fell out, and the spring and such. So one day I'm driving along and I punch it...

*BAM* It's like someone had slammed the brakes on...

I was thinking "WTF!? Please God, don't let something be wrong..."

So I shift to 3rd and gun it...

*BAM* Again...

This is when I think "It has to be the Boost Controller..." I look down at my gauge, and to my suprise, my little turbo was trying to boost far beyond 15 PSI. When the screw fell out, so did the little ball...

I then just un-installed that POS and decided I'll save up for a Greddy MBC that is electronic.

But I do really want to get a FMIC. They look great, and I will need one for the future.

Thanks alot.

you could always be like the local hondas and have a fmic and not have it hooked up (i was appalled first time i saw this). I personally would do about 1 million things to a stock car with a boost gauge before i spent the money for a fmic..but to each its own.

save your money and get other supporting mods first, like a turbo back exhaust, intake, stuff like that
a FMIC is completely unneccessary for a stock car

Wrong. The stock sidemount heat soaks very quickly even at stock boost. ANY turbo car can benefict from a cooler intake charge and a FMIC will do just that. I recommend a small core though like 18x8x2 with piping no bigger than 2.25" diameter. That way you won't have too much lag.

But I have to agree that you should start opening up the airway like with a free-flowing exhaust (2.5" will do just fine if your goal is 350 hp or less). I would start with a exhaust, fuel pump, boost controller, intake and then I would look for a FMIC.
