another quick exhaust question

I have seen many people on these boards running 2.5" DP with a 3" cat or 3" catback and I wanted to know if they just bolt up the 2 different size pipes and have a step in the exhuast, or if there is something I dont know about? How would I meet a 2.5" DP with a 3" cat? Thanks.

most people on here will tell you to mod once and mod right. in that case it depends on your power goals, a 2.5" exhaust will work in most cases, but many people prefer to go 3". unless you already have a 2.5" downpipe and a 3" cat, i wouldnt suggest getting different sizes of things and making it more complicated to put together
