How important is the second O2 sensor?

After I had my 3" turbo back made I have had it just tucked under my car, reading fresh air all the time.I was told that if I put it back in without the cat I would get the cel comming on.

Is it bad to leave it out?

What problems can it cause?

My car runs great, but I am just thinking about the long run.

Thanks

It's fine like you have it. Some cars with throw a CEL with it back in the exhaust stream, some won't. Mine hasn't so far in 6 months. Do you have a mounting hole to put it in? You can try to put it back and see if it throws a light-- if it does, just take it back out. If you do have a mounting location, you do have that hole plugged somehow don't you?

There's also a couple of electronic wiring mods that you can do to "fool" the ECU into thinking the second sensor is working properly-- Caspers Electronics makes a relay kind of thing that you wire in, in place of the sensor. The other way just involves ghetto-rigging some of the wiring down under there, but I don't remember how. I think there's a VFAQ on it somewhere.
