What is static compression?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Static compression happens when a material is compressed for a prolonged period of time and then allowed to relax without being recompressed. Varying amounts of loading cause a strain to be induced. Static compression is measured as a percent strain. The equation for calculating the strain for a specified thickness is:

100 x (original thickness - compressed thickness)/original thickness
