I've just received my throttle body back from a 64 mm bore job and the throttle plate seem to slightly scrape the side wall on the bottom just right before opening and closing but doesn't stick. Do I have anything to worry about?
 
When i got mine back it did the same thing. Just like you said, not enough to stick just enough to notice. Well, after about 1000 miles I took it off and it wasn't like that anymore...only bad part is to think of the metal that went into my intake..:( But everything seems fine...if you're really worried just give the shop that did the job for you a call and ask them. I find that if you're not sure it's best to ask.

I've already asked them and of course they said it's not a problem. Maybe I should sand it down before I install it so I don't get metal shavings into the engine. Thank you for the reply.
 
I just got another email from the guy, can you guys help me make sense of it?

"You probabl don't have the minimum idle screw installed or not set correctly and the blade is closing all the way. It should leave a slight gap that you can see when you hold the TB up to the light. Actually there would be an adjustment procedure in the tech manual for the car but I don't know what that procedure is.
I'm sure you'd have to use a scan tool like I do on my GN to set the screw. (on my car the screw is called a minimum air bleed screw and it's setting affects the idle air control crosscounts.) LMK."

Is he talking about the FIAV? Thanks.
 
Here's another respones from him after I asked him what a "minimum idle screw" is.


"The screw w/the single electical spade connector is the one that limits the blade closure. It may be called a fast idel screw or Idle step up screw on your car since the electrical part of it must kick the blade open a bit more when the air conditioner comes on. The gap looked fine when I adjusted the blade position on your TB. There will be a gap at both top & bottom when it's set according to the book. Hundereds of the Buick GNs have been done exactly the same way so I con't see why the DSMs would need zero gap. The idle control motor will compensate for it and as long as it isn't excessive, it'll be fine. When there's too much gap, the car will have a high idle."
 
On a 1G TB the IPS acts as the throttle plate stop limiting how far the butterfly closes and keeping it from biting into the walls of the TB. IIRC, you adjust it to where the IPS just makes continuity and then turn it in 15/16th to hold butterfly sliightly open.
