I don't think that the amount of soot should be used as the primary indicator of how rich/lean you are running. You should do some data logging and see what your car is really doing. You will need this tool for AFC and injectors regardless so might as well get it now.

2 things you need to buy before thinking of anything else. 1) some sort of fuel managment ie. MAFT, AFC, piggyback or stand alone. its your choice. 2) EGT gauge and probe. it is not exact science but it will let you know how rich or lean you really are. black smoke could mean a few things but more than likely your running rich closer to idle and lean at full throttle. the horsepower rateing you got still gives you more room for tuning with the stock injectors.

Check out www.fullthrottlespeed.com. They sell the MAF-T and a Scanmaster which gives you data in real time and it can log also. I saw the Scanmaster on sale for $229. at www.ramchargers.com.I use both the MAF-T and Scanmaster. You cannot add injecors without fuel control. I have a wideband a/f meter though i beieve the Scanmaster can give a/f readings and an EGT. Mark

Ok, i know i will need some kind of fuel control once i do the injectors..

1) What would be the better system for me..S-afc or Gm MAF??? I am leanig towards the Gm and maft...
2) would i benefit from some fuel control with the 450's or just upgrade injectors now???

I am not lookin for much more power just seeing what i can get from the 14b...

1) air/fuel controllers or managment units are up to you. there are 1,000 of post on the net about one or the other. MAFT, Apex-i AFC, HKS AFR, Greddy ect.... the list goes on. MAFT is the one i recomend and later if you need any sort of fine tuning add a DSMlink to the equation. i like that idea a little better than piggybacking a piggyback.
2) anytime your boost changes so does your air/fuel ratio. your car can only correct so much. adding any kind of fuel controller will correct your curve instead of using the factory's settings which can lead to detonation in some cases. it is very important on turbo vehicles to have some sort of controller. so just as long as you are running the 14b you will not need a new injector size. the flow rate 14b is not enough to over come 450cc. and trust me just installing a fuel controller you will feel more torque than without one.
