Toronto,
I just got my short block back from the machine shop, and now im working on the head (4g63t)

Now that i have the head out, what are some good upgreades to do on the head (running 272's cams)

Should i run new retainers or Port the head? or maybe just run the 272's cams on its own? :dsm:

it would be great to p n p the head and a 3 angle valve job on it with the 272's. It would make for great power. and while your at it money wise to upgrade to a ti retainer and springs set. you dont have to upgrade but its a wise decision. i run the FP2's which is almost the same as 272s on a stock head but im sure if i was the rev to 8500 A LOT the valves would float. not saying they will but im not gonna try it. Im sure there are a few guys on here that run stocks springs and retainers making gobs of hp. :thumb:

clean up that casting flash in the ports and in the valve bowl area. remember that a 3-angle valve is stock.. a 5-angle or a BJ's style radius valve job would even be better.

ti retainers and some badass valve springs along with backcut valves would be trick with those cams.

Your question is kind of open since you didn't state what type of setup your shooting for, street, track only, full blown ball flamer? Are you planning on reving past 7500 rpms? if not the TI's are a waste of money. By your vehicle profile I would upgrade your manifold since you have everything else and port match the head, upgade to 1mm over valves.

I just rebuilt my head. I put in Comp race cams SI dual springs with tit ret and a good port job. I got a larger intake so i had to port out the 2g head to match. And a 7 angle valve job. I was going to get new valves but i figured that new stockers would be ok. I know i really should have gotten some bad ass ones, but the less money the better. However, I dont have the engine back together yet. But if you're working on the head why not go all out... :dsm:
