how much should i put back on the engine before putting the engine in the car? right now i have the trans, x-case and engine out of the car. the reason i am asking is because i know that with the intake maifold on it will be difficult to get at any bolts near the x-case and the knock sensor and such. so how complete should the engine be when i put it back in the car?

Put everything on and I mean everything except the trany. You can bolt up the turbo as well. Its alot eazyer this way when its out of the car.

grab about 3 friends and put that thing back in all together. EVERY even tranny. it just takes a little longer to make adjustments to get the motor mounts to line up. :dsm: :talon: :laser: :thumb:

so i should put the trans back in first then put the fully assembnled engine in, then the t-case in. i got that right?

Yes, get on the trans and all the accesories you can, save for the harmonic balancer, it will give you a bit more room if you dont have it on there. Then install the t-case and balancer once the engine/trans are bolted in.

I assembled mine with EVERYTHING except t-case and a/c. I fiddled for about 3 weeks on trying just the engine then hooking everything up. As soon as I put everything on and dropped it in. It slide in like a pre-heated oven (if you know what I mean)

on my 2g ...

I just jack the car up off the ground really high. Then put the entire engine together ... and I mean ENTIRE. Then drop it in through the top and lower it to almost the ground. Hook the trans up to the engine then and then lift it all up as 1. It will save you a lot of time. Then just plug in sensors and hook up a few coolant / vaccum hoses.

would it have been better to have done the clutch with the trans in the engine bay and then droped the engine in or have romoved them both then put the engine, trans in togeather? for future ref.
