okay so here are the mods so far and what i will be getting over winter:

6 bolt swap
1g head
1g intake manifold
1g TB
ported exhaust manifold
2.5" tubular o2
2.5" DP
2.5" high flow cat
3" exhaust
intake with piping
1g bov
FMIC
650cc incjectors
walbro 255 FP
b16g turbo
vac line removal
dsm link

How will the 6 bolt block with about 80k miles hold up? It recently had some head work done, replaced seals etc.
Should i port the head or anyhting (overkill?)
What boost should i run with this set up?
Is it capable of getting me into the high 11's?

Also, what do you recomend as far as head studs, head gaskets, exhaust manifold gaskets? I want to replace all this stuff so i dont have to worry about breaking them/or leaking etc.

Last question, i have some carbon buildup in my intake manifold? Is there a way to clean this? Does it affect anything. It is also on the ports of the block too where teh manifold bolts up.

thanks a lot
chris

should i get a act 2600 clutch?

How is overkill? As far as the intake manifold take it off and take it to the car wash and use the high pressure washer to clean the inside.

It does not sound like an over kill! sounds like you know a lil something! hahah well if you have the cash to replace the headgasket and etc.... DO IT RIGHT NOW why the engine is going to be out and being rebuilt! and yes get a ACT 2600 or look in to another clutch SlowboyRacing Has many options! also think about getting a flywheel sometimes 1G flywheels will brake and with a lighter flywheel yor REVOLUTIONS will kick up nice! and about porting the head its up to you but its a good idea to do so, and about the engine holding up! i think so! i have a 6bolt right now and i just got a tranny from shep and the car feels good just need to get IC pipes so my Evo16G Flows alot smoother! and my motor had 80K when i got it right now it has about 87K and kickin ass! and about the boost start low and TUNE! and go up slowly and when you reach somethingn you like then stick to taht boost! with a B16G you should be able to run 20PSI safely. well good luck and remember also! take out the balance shaft, also its a good idea to change out BELTS! Timing Belt Alt ETC just to be on the safe side, what else did i do when i got swap? clutch, flywheel, Balance Shaft, also dont forget about Aftermarket gauges! so you dont harm your motor! but do some researh and good luck with everything! hope it turns out nice! and post pics and keep us updated with the GSX and you might be close to high 11's since you got GSX~! hahah ENVY!!!!!!!!! hahah and you might need some Suspsion upgrades well good luck again

But dude!!! DUDE!!! Weres my car?

Anyway I believe you'll have to go bigger than a 16g for 11's, maybe with race gas and 25+psi but then your running the turbo way to hard. I could only find 3 on the time slips forum and one was using nitrious. Anythings possible and if a guy with a 14b can do it.......

Yeah, unless you are an unbelievable driver and tuner there is almost little to no chance your 11 second goal is gonna happen :thumbdown ...But, the 6 Bolt Swap sounds like a good idea...Just make sure you know what you're doing and don't overtighten bolts and such...A 50 trim or bigger would be a wiser choise if you wish for more power to make the goal a tad easier; not neccessary, but the 16G is a more timid turbo that is more commonly used for daily driven 13/12 sec cars... If you are still going to go with the 16G though than that is still a good choice, just remember to get it ported and port the manifold and that new 02...You might want to think about a 3" downpipe though considering a 2.5" will probably only last you to the 11 sec mark and will probably make it a tiny bit harder...Go ahead and port the 1G head and definitely replace your clutch with at least an ACT2100...It might not be enough if you end up pulling consecutive launches and 11 sec runs at the track so a 2600 would be better for the safe side...Like others have said, replace all the important gaskets and switch to a 7cm gasket for the turbo to manifold.

-BTW- Get an AFPR with the the fuel pump you chose or you could run too rich...Now, go out there and buy the parts, tune the car, and run some constant 13's and 12's...Im sure one day you will hit 11's, but probably not until you car is faster and you are an amazing driver ;)

Go with a PTE 50 trim with a front mount to run 11s. The 16g can do it but it is out of its range
you are looking at 400 HP to run 11s on boost only. You also can put a mild spray sytem on it with the 16g and 11s should be no problem. What ever way you go you will need a Front mount so add that to your list. B16g at 20-24 psi with a front mount with a 35- 50 shot easy 11s.

Some new turbo ideas for the 11 sec mark:

In price range of 16G:
-t04B $750 limited offer at SF with all lines included

-SCM50 $719 from PTE (^^offered as a featured product from RNR^^)

If you are buying that giant parts list from your first post I don't think you will have a problem chipping in a little more for more power:
20G
other various 50trims
56 trim
60 trim or 60-1

Too many to list search around the vendors here for good prices

What do you mean by front mount with a 35- 50

Get this

http://www.thespeedfactor.com/to4bpromo.html

It flows 48lbs a min. Has the bullseye housing and comes in at 16g price with install hardware... You wont get creep problems like ppl did with EVO 16gs etc plus more power.

It will get the job done.

He means a 30-45 shot of N20... Honestly I'd avoid the N20.. Unless you already are built, plumbed, wired, EMS'd and tuned for a N20 solid hit over 100hp its way too much $ per hp than buying a big enough turbo in the 1st place.

He means a FMIC and a 30-50hp shot of nitrous will take you into the 11's!

Anyway, Nice setup. Im working on finding a decent gsx around here, but damn they all are modded or torn up. oh well...

good luck! :thumb:

I wouldnt call it morekill but more lacking.... I dont see gm maft/AFPR/clutch.... go with 3" if you havent allready gotten the 2.5 exhaust

word ^ looks wierrrd

anyway, good luck and go 3 inch and get a bigger turbo, that To4b will do the trick becasue im about to with it  :shhh: ;)

you guys are taking me all wrong... that list i posted is all the stuff i have done with the exception of a FMIC and Fule upgrades.
my question is is it overkill for my goals and what PSI i will be running if i rebuild the block and port/polish the head/ and get upgraded cams. Will the 6 bolt block be able to hold the boost i will be throwing at it. I would be happy with low 12's if my engine/car will be a consistent car. I dont want to push it to its very limits. I want a reliable car low 12's or high 11's.

EDIT: so what PSI shoudl i be running with the stock block, and the 16g wtih supporting mods as a daily driver?

With the boost i throw at it with the 16g everythign should still be okay as long as i have good comperession on all cylinders?

the main question is should i rebuild the block and port and ppolish the head for the goals i have set for my car? Considering i will prolly want to be faster later on.

chris

There's a guy here runnin 20psi daily on the stock block
w/ 16G and supporting mods. 12s all day long on pump
91-93 octane. Well 12.9,still 12s tho...

His mods incl: FMIC,Injectors,190FP,Fuel Rail,MAFT,
2.5 IC Piping, 3"Exhaust No Cat,
TypeS BOV,3"GM MAS,3"Intake,
ACT2100,etc....
It's a 96 GSX w/ 89,000 original miles.

Well the turbo on special moves 48lbs/hr and is in the same price range... 48lb/hr ~ 480hp... I wonder what turbo is more bang for the buck

4g63's can handle a$$ loads of power its all in the setup I think you need to be more realistic on your 11 sec goals. The 16g starts having problems with anything over 20psi on pump gas, you will start knocking. I could only push mine to 18-20psi today w/ a outside air temp of 40* and it started to pull timing. W/ water injection you can up it to maybe 25 but buy then you'll be pumping hot air. If you want a 11 sec reliable daily driver go buy a EVO and dump your money into it.

The first time you go to the track for that 11 sec pass your gonna snap your transfer case and bend your shift forks cause they can't handle 400+hp launches.

Call some of the vendors and ask them what they recomend. You want/got some what the same goals/mods that I have and I know that I will have to go to a larger turbo.

OMFG ROTLOL

If you want a reliable 11 sec car screw the evo... the DSM trans and t-case has less bugs in it...

Shift forks have NOTHING to do with power capacity. If someone wails on the shift lever they WILL brake. 200hp or 2000hp.

Notice any "shep" transfer cases?

no

Notice the majority broken are dead due to neglecting a simple TSB that takes only minutes to fix.

Get the larger turbo and PM me if you need help with other parts.
