hello all,
i have to get my car running in about a month and am on limited funds. i have torn down my 6bolt block to get the pistons and all. i have a 95 eagle talon tsi, i believe i have spun the bearings on two rods. i can either rebuild the 7bolt or put in the 6bolt block. i know everyone would say 6bolt swap in, but i don't know if i have the time to do all the mods needed too put it in or have all the parts to do it. on my 7bolt, i think all i might need is a new crank, rod bearings, rings and a gasket kit, also machine work to get my 1st gen rods on the pistons.
on the 6bolt i am not really sure what i would need. i know the crank is good and the block is too. i just not sure how complicated the swap would be. i know i could do it with time, but that is something i do not have much of.

thanks

sonny

It looks like you answered yourself already...do the 6-bolt swap. If you are unsure of what you need, then you can go to slowboy or magnus as they both have kits to help you bolt it in.

PS I would never build a 7bolt except for a 7bolt 4g64. The risk just isn't worth it to me.

I would think that just rebuilding what you have would be easier, quicker, and cheaper. its more direct and easier to do. BUT you may regret it in the future. no matter what, rushing yourself to do it is going to make things suck either way. have you thought of finding a 500 beater that you can use til you can do youre car right? wont help pick up chicks, and may not be pretty, but will let you take your time like it needs to be.

I agree totally.

Answer these two questions first. What are your plans for the car down the road ie. using it more for racing or are you just looking to use it as a daily driver.

What risk?
Do our 95s have 6 bolt or 7?
"Production date Sept of 94"

They have 7-bolts. The later 1g's do as well someone else with the exact year can tell you more specifically which 1g's do.

You might wanna concider that 6bolt swap I just did mine along with the AT/MT swap at the same time. I can tell you that the only realy mods needed are grinding a motor mount and a mod to the timing belt cover. Other then that swap all your sensors and thats about it. The trans eveything bolts right up. All the talk about having to cut this and that and grind slot starter holes I didn't have to do at all just everything bolted up. This was in my 95 car. So Would say that you should since you already have a 6bolt use that. Now if you are talking about just having a 6bolt block and not a long block then I would have to weigh the two costs. Are you sure your 7bolt is just rod beasings and not the start of crank walk? Mine CWed and screwed the rod bearings too.

If you are interested in the bolt swap then I would look at using my walkthough as some guidence.

Bear in mine I bought my 6bolt for 1500 canadian.

VFAQ was helpful here.

The "RISK" mentioned earlier was in
reference to CW issues w/ the 7bolt,right?
The way to tell if it's a 6 or 7 is to feel the
shape of the oil pan.92 & L8R models=7bolt flywheel pattern.

Didn't I read some story by DSMJim
'bout a 7bolt rebuild compaired to a 6bolt swap?
I think it was the 11sec story posted on the web.
Not all 7bolts CW.Some 6bolts CW,you just don't
know how bad cause of no cam angle sensors.

Me,115k stock,DailyDriver,goin strong.
I worry enuf about makin ends meet.
Seen the word "cheap" and had to post. OMG
