I have a mkiv supra i/c and a 88 starion I/C. I would like to hear opinions of which one I should mount in my 90 tsi/awd. Pro's, cons? I know fabrication will be required and that is not a problem. I also know that neither of these is the best upgrade for the car, but it will have to suffice for a while. Your input is greatly appreciated. I would also like to hear from those that put one or the other in their car and the results.

Well, I would say.....go with the supra side mount.

The starion/conquest cores heat soak VERY quickly....I would notice a ~30hp drop from one dyno run to the next with one of those style cores being used......that's BAD heat soak.

Where as the Supra side mount obviously holds 300HP++ without a problem.

yep, same here. The StarQuest intercoolers need to be replaced as they are very inefficient and cut down on the flo pretty bad as well as the aforementioned heat gain properties.

I have heard of people using Ford Diesel truck intercoolers and as well the Volvo 240 intercoolers are supposed to be quite good. I was involved in Volvo tuning for a bit and it is generally considered a waste of money to upgrade the IC until over 300 hp, and over 18 psi or so. The Volvo unit is not great looking but it is very efficient(near Spearco standards) and flows well.

Supra over the StarQuest one tho...
