I was just lookin at that ebay stroker kit, the price is fantastic, but I wasn't sure about the reliability of them. Would it be too much to ask for 100,000 miles from a stroker? Moderatly tuned of course, maybe 350-400 awhp on pump......

Depends on who is driving it and who is building it.

If you plan on getting your motor internals off Ebay in a kit, well, good luck with that.

What does it matter if it's from ebay or not? As far as I can tell, the ebay kits are brand name kits; in other words, je pistons, eagle rods, etc. Whether you buy them from ebay or the DSM vendors should make no difference.

EBay parts tend to be just off.

I will give you examples from my personal experiences. I work at a shop and it seems I see EBay parts daily.

I can't guess how many body kits I have seen from EBay. I can tell you it's been no less than 20. Not one of them fit anywhere near "ok". The kits are still made by VIS however and they've never been installed.

Every turbo I have seen off EBay (6ish) has had shaft play. They still say Garrett or HKS on them and they're brand new.

I've just come to the conclusion that most EBay parts are China cheap crap or manufacturer mess ups.

I'm not saying the kit is crap, I'm just saying good luck with it. If the crank is machined wrong, or the rods have a production error, don't be shocked.

Ebay is a risk but so is buying any part from a private seller. Usually you get what you pay for. I personally would spend the extra couple of bucks and get some decect shit form a good vendor.

Helped build a 2.3 stroker for a friend maybe a year and a half ago, he's running HKS 264's, a new crank with eagle rods and JE pistons, a lightly ported head, magnus intake, a big front mount, and a 3" exhaust along with an FPRED. Runs hard on the street after 18 months and over 60 thousand miles, and makes lots of power.

He actually lives just outside of Seattle, I just moved to Edmonton recently. I'll see what I can do about the pictures, but I don't see how a couple pictures of a DSM is going to prove anything about what is inside the motor, how long he has driven it, or if it uses oil or not, if you don't want to believe me that's fine, doesn't really matter to me much. I don't see why a 2.3 stroker should not last a long time as long as you are methodical on assembly and treat the motor right.

I'd stay far away from JE pistons in a 4g63

Quoted from NDgsx:
JE has their skirt profiles so wrong for the 4G63, DSMs stopped using JEs widely about three years ago. You have to run JEs really loose (relative t Ross or Wiseco) to keep the skirts from seizing in the bores. Piston slap on cold startup actually is a problem with the proper clearance. If you follow JEs recomended clearance and actually make power have fun rebuilding your motor after it seizes.

I have to agree I too have heard bad things about JE .. that's why I went with ross. Wiesco also seems to be ok.

My motor seized the first time I started it cause my maft was leaned out and I wasnt keeping the rpms up high enough to force the rings to seat. Let her cool down and started her a second time and all was fine:D

I'm in Edmonton too, I'm in process of doing the stroker with je pistons as well. Je pistons are fine any forged pistons expand when hot, they will only seize the engine if the block isn't bored out enough. My car should be done Tomorrow.

"Reliability" is a bad term. There's too many factors that are involved. I built my own and feel that is will be "reliable" but obviously as long as you know what you're doing and don't beat the shit out of it at every stoplight, i'tll hold. It'll hold even if you do if you did it right and have it all tuned correctly.
