Ok I need to know if this is crankwalk or something else. My car starts to make a loud ticking sound when im in gear but will go away out of gear. It sounds like something is tapping on my motor while im driving. It is really annoying and my car runs like crap because if this. Anyone have any ideas on what this could be? It just doenst seem like the right sound or loud enough for it to be crankwalk.

Put your ear up to the valve cover and see if you can hear the ticking, try to pin down where its coming from
if youve been lazy with the oil changes or the engine has been abused you might be hearing the lifters complaining

Check your exaust manifold, mine was very badly cracked and made a horrible ticking sound that sounded like a lifter.

If the ticking corresponds to engine speed and to you pressing the clutch down then crankwalk is a possibility. Sorry but I think you have to know. I had that problem about a year and a half ago and it the crank sensor getting slowly grinded away metal trigger plate that its supposed to be getting the position input from.

Go to your local auto parts store and get some "RESTORE". It's in a silver can next to the oil/oil additives.
Dump it in a few hundred miles before your next oil change and your car will be nice and quiet for quite awhile. ;)

I had the same problem it ended up being a cracked exhaust manifold

You know RESTORE is a very good product. Not to sure on their claims but it's a very good bandaid. My friends B2200 was smoking like a chimny when he assumed it. I couldn't stand to drive behind his slow smoking a##. So I had heard of RESTORE and I threw a can in and with-in 10-20 seconds after the inital startup the smoking stoped completly. I was going to try some in my Talon but was unsure if I should cause of the Turbo. I'm not to sure what effects this stuff will have on the turbo it's self. But go ahead and try. I've also seen in the FAQ section that Lucas Oil Stabilizer also will help your ticking. So would a good carbon cleaning as it could be from carbon build-up on your valves. If you burn some oil It's definilty build up on your valves.

Well I just had the motor completely rebuilt and I have the new style lifters in it. How can a cracked exhaust manifold cause that kind of ticking? But I will have to check that. Where were your cracks in the manifold at?
