Princeton,
OKay it seems that the knock sensor idea is really complicated.
when the engine knock it sends 12v's to close the wg. couldn't you just cut off the solenoid and use those wires to power a led, or blub as a knock light??.

I know it isn't that accurate but I bet It'd would tell you if something is really wronge.

id think you could do that. if you are using an mbc and just have that old solenoid sitting in there it might be worth it to cut the wire and run a led into the car. my .02

yeah my point exactly, I have a mbc and it's just there, why should I wire leds across the ecu or the harness.
.

There is a problem with this however.

From what I've read, the wires to the boost solenoid, and the knock sensor readings are slightly disconnected. The ECU is inbetween them, and doesn't try to pull boost until it sees a lot of knock, I don't know what the value is, but I'm guessing probably knocksum of 10 or more, where it really starts to retract timing. So, you won't get an actual readout of knock.

Also, if you have an MBC, and you run the car real hard, the ECU will try in vain harder and harder to cut the boost, and eventually the LED will just stay solid illuminated.

That's what I've heard.

knock sensor LED idea is old. so old, it's not even considered worthwhile, as it doesn't really tell you anything (except if you have bad gas or something). i had one for a while, but then took it out. on a 2G it constantly flickers, as the ECU is constantly sending a signal to the BCS in the mid rpm range
