im in the middle of a rebuild and dont know what to do about the oil and water pump. im too poor to buy new ones, i was quoted over $400 for the two. what have others done in my situation?

Dude your getting ripped! Im poor aswell but I got my water pump at Napa for 50 bucks! And I cant see paying any more than 50 to 60 for the oil pump. If napa quoted you that price, go find a different supplyer. Or if you have a friend that works in the automotive industry chances are they have a discount, use that. Dont let them chump you like that.

i know it should be avoided but how big of a no no is it to reuse the old ones with 64,000 miles on them

You're probably okay with the oil pump, but don't try to re-use the water pump. Go ahead and measure the oil pump to make sure it's still in spec.

I reused mine both at 60k. If its not broke then don't fix it imo.
