Hi, i'm a conquest owner and i am considering doing a 4g63 swap but i wanted to look into doing the 4g64 hybrid. I've been told there is a 4g64 "wideblock" it was rear wheel drive i assume out of some kind of mightymax... and if it exists is it dohc? more importantly will the 4g63 head bolt up to it? I am interested in it because i'd like to use whatever transmission came off of it etc etc since this is a rear wheel drive application. Any input on this?

To the best of my knowledge the most 4g6x motors are interchangable, I am unsure about the trans, but you might want to talk to buschur about this, they have a conquest with a 4g63 in it and they are very infomative on this subject.

Well i know how to do the 4g63... but i'm sacraficing a lot of torque and quick spool doing it... i would like to do the 4g64 hyrbid to maintain some of those characteristics... but wanted to see what this wideblock i've "heard" about is all about.

Yes there is a 4g64 wide block, and you are right, it is out of the mighty max and other mitsu trucks or dodge d50's as well as the mitsu van. The years you would want are 90/91 and it is the rear drive versions only. As far as I know, Mitsu only made two bellhousing sizes and this is the wider 13.25 version.

Yea but aren't those the sohc 4g64's? The idea is to get the 4g63 head on it obviously... i'll research it... but i could have sworn those were sohc.

Also i wonder if the wiseco pistons they make for the 4g64/63 hybrid will work.

Yes they are SOHC, but they will take the DOHC 4g63 head just as any other hybrid 4g63/4g64 combo and they are a six bolt motor with the larger rods.

awwesome that'd solve my transmission problem... any ideas on where i could find a shortblock? They look kind of hard to find.

what about a 4g64 block out of the NT spyder and a 4g63t head? I know this is a common swap for us and if it fits in our car and our engine fits in your car then this should work for you as well.

Well yea... that is another option... but remember i'm RWD so i'd need to do a custom transmission... i'd have to do a d-50 tranny and change the guts even one of the supra older supra bell housings would match up... but its just another pain in the ass... if i could get a hold of a 4g64 wideblock shortblock i could use whatever tranny they come with possibly even my stock tranny, not really sure. I have some modifications to do like fabricating some motor mounts and what not... i just want it to be as quick and affordable as possible.

ok, but I was under the impression that a NT spyder 4g64 bolts up to a 4g63 trans? With that in mind I just figured whatever trans you are using ... if the 4g63 motor bolts up, then the 4g64 off the spyder will as well. I've never heard of having to run a different trans in a gst or gsx when going from a 4g63 to a 4g64, so in your car both motors should work with the same trans as well right?

So basically one of these is what you suggest? What is the difference between the G64 and the 4G64? The 4g63 heads will bolt up to them? And i was somewhat under the impression the starquest bellhousing would bolt up to the 4g64 wideblock (i heard anyway).

I have no clue if those will work or not with a rwd tranny, I just know what blocks bolt up to a standard dsm tranny.

The 4g64 is a 7 bolt 2.4 liter. Most prefer the 6 bolt motor. The g64b, and g4cs are 6 bolt motors, including the big 1g rods. The 4g63 head should bolt on.

The wideblock 4G64 will bolt to your stock tranny. Most people are looking to drop a 4G63 in and end up picking up a tranny from a d50/mightymax with the narrow block pattern.

Given you are doing the opposite, your wide pattern tranny will bolt to the wide pattern 4G64.

Yea thats what i thought... that 4g64 wideblock is it only in the 90-91 mightymax's or is it in others as well? Also are those other g64's listed above... will my tranny not bolt up to them?

Btw: the Dodge D50 also has the 4g64 wideblock too right?

So how's the swap going?

Might want to check with Magnus. They have a couple built 4G64 options to choose from.
