Knock sensor Question

Will a 2g knock sensor work in a 6-bolt block???

you are still using the 2G wiring harness, so yes.

... I assume this is a 1G in a 2G swap?

You dont have to have a knock sensor on the block, its not blocking oil from coming out or anything.

But no, please dont put your 2g sensor on the firewall. The ECU pulling your timing because of knock is a good thing...

we were at BIR Bristol international Dragway tues. night street fights and there was a guy that had put his knock sensor on the firewall he said it helped alot. I was just going to plug the hole with the other sensor. What do you think, is it worth the trouble???

like 98TsiAWD... the knock sensor is in the block for a reason. you get knock, there is a problem, and the ecu pulls timing... that way you dont blow up your engine.

you put the sensor on the firewall, you are running with no knock sensor and no detonation protection.

and completely dampens the enjoyment of your experience


No your knock sensor is extremely important to keep hooked up. The only reason to get rid of it (ie zip tie to firewall) is if you have phantom knock so bad that u don't get any timing advance and you KNOW you are tuned fine... ie via Wideband or something else adequate... but this still isn't recommended because if you have knock - you should really get to the bottom of the problem before you push your car a lot.... that is unless you have money to burn and like practicing engine rebuilding...

can u install the knock sensor on the bottom of the intake manifold there is a hole the exact size n my block is a 2.4 with the hole on the block plugged so there is no hole for it n its to late to put a hole cause i installed the motor n got it running,just wondering if that spot will stil count the knock

There is 2 holes in teh back of the 4g63 block where you can put it, the 4g64 block should just have one. And it will work fine, shold be about midway down the block in the centerish region.
