this car has been a bi*** to crank up....we can get it to run by advancing the ignition timing all the way and then it still sounds like shit...a mechanic said the timing belt was off....and by searching about crower cams it said they need adj gears to idle correctly...could this be causing the problem?....it idles at like 600 rpm and the oil light flickers cuz the idle gets down to lik 200-300 sometimes.....and thats with ign timing all the way advanced

What is it acutally firing at with it all the way advanced? Do you have a timing light to check it? Are you sure that the cam to crank timing is perfect? In other words are you sure you put the timing belt on correctly? A friend of mine has the crower cams without adjustable cam gears and his does idle like it has aftermarket cams which is normal.

the timing is at like 20 before tdc with a timing light and i tried to advance it with no success....i dont think thats the problem...i think the problem is the cams....it needs the adj gears....i think we're gonna put in the stock cams just till it runs right and then eventually upgrade to the crower with the gears once its all running good and broken in

Holy Sh!t the spec for base ignition timing is 5 degrees btdc so you need to retard that timing alot! It even says the spec. under the hood on the emissions decal if it's still there. If the motor does not run at 5 degrees btdc then check mechanical timing(timing belt).

which of Crower cams is it? I got the stage I or 264 equiv. and it cranks and idle ok with the intake cam striaght up. I did advance the exhaust 6 deg to get more vacuum at idle. My cams only pulls 11-12 mmgh(??) at 750rpm idle.

My base timing is at 10 deg BTDC
