I need to flange a stock 2g manifold for an external wastegate. I called a local shop and just to weld the flange on it's about $150 for "welding and materials", however this still doesn't include the flange. What's special about welding to cast to make it cost this much, that seems ridiculous. :thumbdown Can you just use a regular mig welder to weld the flange on or what is needed? This is all I have left to do to get my car driving again, but $150 is way to much for something as simple as this.

Cast is slightly more difficult to weld someone with a good TIG welder can do it fairly easily I do it at work all the time. But you do risk cracking it when working with cast. There are probably other welders on here that will say its easy to be done or anything but for me I would avoid the job.

well the other option is to put the wastegate at the downpipe I suppose ... how / where do people mount them then? Like how far away from the turbo would be ok? The reason I ask is there is not much room and the spot that I could see it working has my O2 sensor. Does the wastegate need to be VERY close to the turbo to avoid creeping?

The wastegate has to be before the turbine in the turbo. It lets out exhaust to control the boost.
