My car wont start. It idles for a few seconds then dies. As soon as I step on the gas it dies as well. I am certain it has to do with the gm maf or translator. I have no error codes, the translator leds blink at first when turning the ignition on, and eveything else looks good as well. It just wont stay running. Base idle knob set for 680cc injectors and mode swiches all off except for 3" maf is on.

I was planning on just using my SAFC to tune and only adjusting the base setting on the translator for my 680 injectors, which I have done.

I didnt hook the rpm wire up because I was under the impression it doesnt need to be if I am not using the low, med and high settings on the translator. Could this be the reason my car wont start? Does the translator NEED to know what the engine rpm is all the time?

I have 1g v1.3 translator. Could the maf be faulty? I've been trying to search for a method to test the maf but no such luck.

First of all make sure you reconnected the original maf wiring harness to the new maft harness. I have forgetten to connect all of the connectors in the past and it gives very similar symptoms to what you decribed.
If that all checks out, I would highly suggest connecting the RPM wire. If I remember correctly, with the RPM wire not connected the maft puts itself into a hard coded value mode. Meaning, if it is not getting an rpm signal it will input hard coded values to the ecu calculations, and you might be running into some sort of major conflict with the SAFC combination. I am not sure since I don't run an SAFC along with it.
If you already havn't there is a yahoo groups for the maft which you should check out. Lots of useful stuff on there, and you may get some helpful results posting there.

Yeah, I read through that forum before I posted here but no definitive answers were found relitive to my specific situation. I tried the rpm wire and no luck. I played with the base setting, quadruple checked all connections, yadda yadda yadda and same thing. I'll be trying a new maf tomorrow. I am certain now I got a faulty maf. Its gotta be it.
