question about cams

it all depends on your other mods. If you are staying with a stock turbo, than you can do the 5spd turbo cams. But if i were u, i would do the HKS 264/264.. I put those in my car, and i have a stock head. No lumpy idle... Work great... Hope this helps

well, i am going to stick with the 14b....but i had to do the valve cover gasket, so i figuered while its off, maybe get sum cams.....but do cams give u a significant amount of HP for the 450 bux it costs??

It's quite a bit more work than the VC gasket as you have to pull the belts, sprockets.. etc.

On a 16G performance gains of 15HP were seen by AMS ..but with a smaller turbo.. would think it less of a gain.

IMO.. at your level of mods.. you'd be much better served picking up an EVOIII turbo for that kinda dough.

BTW.. I haven't seen HK$ cams for <$480/set (i.e. let me know your source :) ).. typically run they $580.

I am not sure if you are aware of this or not, but there is more involved when installing cams than just taking off the valve cover. Your going to have undo the timing belt covers, take the tension off the timing belt, etc. If your car is mostly stock, installing a new set of performance cams probably won't net you a whole lot of HP. There are a lot of people on here who have completely stock heads that below the 11 sec quarter mile range. You might want to start with smaller more efficient modifications such as a manual boost controller (to up the boost), cut open your airbox, S-AFC, etc. The money it would cost you for a new set of cams could be spent on a variety of other mods that would yield much higher power gains. However if you have already completely modded out your car, and your making decent track times, you then might want to consider going for a new set of cams.

I was always under the impression they were exactly the same. The cams for the automatic transmission and the 5 speed (* I think *, not totally sure) should be the same. If they are not, (which I don't see how they could differ, since only the transmission is different) you can pick up 1g turbo cams off of ebay for $30.00 a set.
