My Build-up After the Downfall

Posted 03-23-2008 at 11:51 AM by thricestrat
My First Blog Ever

Here's the deal... Ive been w/ dsmtuners for 6 years now, and have owned to dsm's. My first car was a 99 eclipse gs. I thought I was the man until I started realizing that the 420a is just not worth it. I built my own turbo kit and did everything I could to the car until I fell under financial debt. I sold the car for 2k and was sick about it for 2 years that I gave up "my baby" that I cared for maticulously.

V Now V

I bought a 95 eagle talon tsi in November of 07 and have building since. I bought a 95 to "get away with" NYS inspection criteria (i.e. Scan Tool the shops use for CEL codes). Ive done a ton of work too it since. Ive converted it to a 2gb eclipse (high rise spoiler, front bumper w/ projector hlamps, rear bumper, rear tlamps, etc.) Ive also done all the stage 1 bolt-on's and will post them in my next entry.
I will also be posting all carnage the car endured before I bought it. (pretty hilarious actually, some people should just not touch cars period)

Thanks guys for reading and Ill be sure to keep posting!

Alright heres the deal...

The guy I bought the car from sold it super cheap because the car was a mess. I bought it for 2500 but knew what I was getting myself into. I didnt necessarily want a daily that was in good shape, I wanted a "project". The car was torn apart, missing practically everything, aside from the motor/engine. The day I literally rolled it home by hand I began to tear into it flipping the entire car inside and out. I found wires ran by him spaghetti'ed throughout the entire car using duct tape grounding out on the floor board?!?! awesome so I got through all that, removing all the junk and basically returning the car too stock. Next thing was the hideous body kit that was on the car. I ripped off the front and back bumper's and too my suprise the reinforcements (impact bars) were MIA (both). Another awesome thing! lol. I know some people remove their front for a FMIC but Im really not into that... I personally like having a "whole car", anyways I started the swap and in the midst bought the SSAC FMIC, which didnt fit for crap. I used a dye grinder to removed the material to install it correctly and also trim out the new 2Gb front bumper. While installing the FMIC I bought and installed these parts... HKS SSQV bov, short route piping instead of the 2.25 the kit came w/ I bumped it up to 2.5, Big 16G ported, equal length turbo mani, SB 7cm reusable gasket to turbo, SB oil feed, SB clutch line, External 02 housing ported, Taboo vaccum re-line, Walbro 255 and rewire, AFPR (aeromotive), fuel rail -8AN size, 720cc injectors, new eprom ecu, DP and 3" exhaust As for the motor... it was rebuilt 20k ago have receipts from the guy I bought it from. But, I removed the head through a Cometic HG on it and had the head inspected, I also re-ringed the pistons and through new rod bearings in. I did this because I will be buying a 6-bolt in the near future that I want to build-up and swap in next winter.

Thats pretty much it for now.... its been a long adventureous build but fun! There's been TONS of problems along the way but thats what makes it interesting right? lol

Illl post some pics as soon as I snap some

It runs?!?

It actually Runs!!!!

I took off mon-wed of this week to put time into the car. I re-ran my afpr lines because I just wasnt happy with the way it was sitting (im sort of a perfectionist, do it once do it right). I tuned in the afpr to 43.5 w/ out vacuum line and found 1 small leak, easy fix no big deal. I plugged in my eprom and fired her over! sounded great and idle was right on the button. I will be installing a new biss screw and cap this weekend, doing a compression test, boost leak test, vac. test, and such to check that all vital's are A O.K. I still need to tweek a few more things and install my new wideband. Also I need to flush the rest of the tank because that gas has sat in the tank way too long. Im going to pull the feed line off my fuel rail pressure-ize the line, run the pump, and just dump the 1/8 tank of gas thats left into a drum. Any suggestions on a better way to do it other than removing the tank, let me know!

thanks guys and I still need to snap some pics
