Blog Title: 95 GST rebuild/upgrade
So here's my project stofy so far...

I lost my last DSM just over a year ago and was mad at the world for the longest time (now I'm just still mad at the cops for it). I lost the passion for tuning and cars in general and ended up buying a damn honda just to have a car, hated driving it every day. Then I found a '95 GST on craig's list for only $1500 and the only issue I was told it had was it wouldn't start. So I bought it, couldn't pass it up, after all, I've always loved DSMs. I finally got it running after 3 weeks of trial and error with electrical parts, ripped out 50ft or so of useless wires from under the steering wheel alone.

I got to drive the car car for only 2 1/2 days (only 88 miles) and then the engine lost power and could barely struggle to 40mph. So another 2 months went by, replacing more parts, putting the car on craig's list to avoid the nightmare, and still getting nowhere. Then I finally found out someone did a 6-bolt swap and never told me. The whole time I've been doing the electrical stuff the wrong way. Now I've redone the wiring, and of course, still nothing. Did a compression test just to find out that every cylinder had very low compression. So I've given up on trying to make the car start just so I can enjoy driving a DSM again and put the car into full project mod. I'm in the process of removing the engine and transmission so I can fix the compression and upgrade the internals at the same time. Gonna keep upgrading and hopefully be ready to put it on the road (and track) by late spring/ early summer.

More to come...

Engine finally went in last night!!!

Posted 05-20-2011 at 09:30 AM by spyderdrifter (95 GST rebuild/upgrade)

After months of stressing over my engine build, parts not arriving like they should, and small set backs here and there, I finally got my engine timed last night for $20 and now it's resting in it's rightful location all snug in the engine bay. I know everything I need for the engine to start (fuel, spark, etc...) is good. I'm still a little leary of the timing since this guy did it so quickly, and...

Finally rebuilding: Days 1-3....

Posted 04-17-2011 at 03:23 PM by spyderdrifter (95 GST rebuild/upgrade)

So I finally got my pistons that I fought to get for a month and got the block and head to the machine shop for machine work and balancing. I can't find my list of the work they did at the moment, but that'll get listed under my mod list once I do find it.

Anyway, got the block and head back this past Thursday and it sat til Friday night when I realized they removed ALL the bolts I...

Frozen soap wash...

Posted 02-01-2011 at 08:15 AM by spyderdrifter (95 GST rebuild/upgrade)
Updated 02-01-2011 at 12:16 PM by spyderdrifter

The other day I decided that since I've removed 98% of everything on my car, it would be a perfect time to tow it down the street to the car wash and clean everything out. So I made arrangments with a friend to help me out, and then found out yesterday before I washed it, that the temperture was gonna be 11 degrees for the high... @#*!...... So I washed it anyway, and had frozen soap everywhere,...

teardown forcast: partly cloudy with a chance of thrown wrenches....

Posted 01-29-2011 at 11:16 PM by spyderdrifter (95 GST rebuild/upgrade)

So I got a few extra days off from work and decided to strip my car of everything so I can take it to be pressure washed and finally get rid of all the crap under the carpet and in the trunk pan as well as to wash the engine bay of all the oil and dirt deposits. For some reason I got the itch to even remove my doors. Turns out that may have been a bad idea. The lower hinge on the driver door has only...

More mods

Posted 01-25-2011 at 02:18 PM by spyderdrifter (95 GST rebuild/upgrade)

So I've been building a storage box inside my old pass. airbag spot since last Sept. It will eventually house the battery kill switch, fuel cut-off switch, and boost controller. As well as any other electronics that I end up getting. Here's a few pics...
