Second race into the season at Rocky Mountain Raceway and I put my Eagle Talon on the trailer, and not by its own power this time.

We've been playing with the shifter length and I've been having some issues getting into fourth gear. Well, this run I missed 4th and the motor rev'd up to about 10k-11k and hung there awhile. Motor stopped, I pulled over and was pushed off the track. We pushed her onto the trailer and were spectators the rest of the night.

We dropped the oil pan and found pretty sparkles in the oil along with some pretty torn up bearing.

Not surprising, we found the oil pump had seized.

We had a spare short block sitting on the shelf, but I wasn't wanting to use it already!

In assembly – painted all flat black of course!

New bottom end includes Wiseco’s and 1g rods with ARP hardware. I feel dirty having to switch to Wiseco’s. I was loving the fact I was on 2g pistons! Old motor will be taken back to the machine stop for a rebuild and set on the shelf for “next time”.

Set in

Goal is to have it up and running by this weekend. We’re taking it to Ben Hanks Racing next week for them to install the roll cage. I found them through Vince and his ’02 Z06 (that recently ran 9′s, shameless plug for GM Gearbox Magazine).

Just wondering why you chose Wiseco pistons?

It was a spare motor that came with a car I bought years ago. We just stuck it on the shelf until it was "needed".

I kept it because it was built by the machine shop I use so I knew where it came from.

My motor spun a rod bearing earlier this year and I still have not had a chance to tear it completely apart and look into what caused it. But my situation was similar, I missed a shift and the rpm's were very high when I came to the next stop there was a loud knocking. I'm just curious what bearing yours spun? I never thought it could have been my oil pump that seized.

I spun all the rod bearings and it started on the mains.
