Mt. Dew and TurboBlue

Posted 07-11-2011 at 08:55 AM by 95talongirl (TrboBLU - Project Ricecar to Racecar)

Is it time for an update? Perhaps.

....it still doesn't run...

Anyways, did get some more items "fixed." First we'll start with the windows. I have no idea why anyone would remove the window guide felts, stoppers and plastic guides on the bottom; but this a$$clown did. So the window would roll up too far and cause the door to not shut. For anyone...

Flash's 2g DSM build- Complete Interior Rebuild In Progress!!!

Let's kick things off! The seats had just been removed, and I was test fitting my new harness bar before painting. The sound deadening on the rear wheel tub proved to be the hardest to remove.

I did a write up about the dual element I designed for APR a little while back. It is slated to be produced pretty soon. I thought it might be of interest.

Part 1

I received my 9" SPAL fan in the mail yesterday and boy is that thing tiny HAHA!

To get to everything I needed to rip off the old air duct work and damn, that gorilla tape is a monster for grip. It didn't pose too much of a problem getting it off but it did put up a bit of a fight. I don't believe duct tape would do this well.

So...

No start, dislike!!

Posted 06-27-2011 at 01:54 PM by gho5tone (95 Eagle Talon Awd project restoration)

Well I tried to start my project car and it doesn't start.

Cranks, has fuel, and timing should be good but it doesn't start. I think it doesn't have any spark but we'll see. It's a good thing that I have a spare dsm that I daily drive to test parts on my project. I'm going to see if the spark plug wires are still good and go from there.

Hopefully I'll get a chance...

Ok, so besides this car causing all those involved with it to loose their minds, I think it's finially starting to come together.

Regardless, the engine cranks over! *yAy* This was after replacing the main start cables that were corroded. It's not running yet because it needs some 3/8" heater hose for the turbo lines. And spark sticks. Yes, spark sticks.. I keep forgetting about...

I've been dealing with some extremely hot coolant issues. Some days just cruising normally, I'd reach just about 230* and that's with a colder thermostat. My issues are:
1. Running a SINGLE slim fan which was only rated at 900 CFM
2. No DUCTING
3. Large FMIC

The stock fans are rated between 1300-1600 CFM each so I'm trying to...

Replacing IM Gasket = Worst Job Ever

Posted 06-12-2011 at 01:56 PM by Blurred Talon (The Gold Digger)

Had to replace the gasket on my Intake Manifold this weekend. This is simply the worst repair I've ever had to do, it's such a pain to get at the lower bolts with the huge hands I've got but luckily with a ratchet wrench, it's doable.
Starting the tear down, the night before. There's so much stuff to get out of the way first that I didn't finish it the first day.

Going back to May 6th, I had a camera crew come out and film me for an online project. Anyway, after a day of filming at home, they followed us to Rocky Mountain Raceway. First run was a bust, can’t exactly explain why. Second run I got all setup with in car cameras. Launch sucked, again – unsure what happened – slamming gears didn’t go well, then fourth went in and stuck. Limped down the return lane...

Well my G4CS has gone through the paces for 8/9 years on the same standard off the shelf Wiseco pistons, and eagle rods. The motor was never setup for what I was doing with it so 8 years is good lol.

The head is still off being repaired so I have been doing what little projects I can and collecting parts for the reassembly.

The O2 housing had a pretty large leak right at the wastegate opening so that would explain the slower-than-expected spool. I had it re-surfaced and it was pretty out of whack. I don't see why MAP won't use a 1/2" flange.

I had originally...

More goodies for the RX8!

Posted 05-24-2011 at 05:32 PM by viprez586

Well, I always knew my rx8 was slow in the straight line. So i got curious what it put down to the rear wheels after being neck and neck with a new civic SI.
Now that the weather is better I brang it to the dyno to put down a pathetic 155hp and 118tq.

I knew something was wrong.
Did a compression test and found super low compression, especially on the rear rotor.

Rust Repair Part 5 (Final Part)

Posted 05-24-2011 at 05:37 AM by Blurred Talon (The Gold Digger)

I decided to chop the spare tire well out of my car. It was rusty and crappy so it was time to go. I replaced it with a sheet of 1/8" thick aluminum.

Old rusty wheel well.

My car is finally running after help with a local member. Thank you tuners! I've been driving on my new rebuild for over 6.5k miles and it has not given me much problems other then the small kinks.
As is stands right now i just had a baby boy a moth ago who loves to ride in the talon.

I just ordered link and a wideband to go with my fmic intercooler and e16g .

Posted 05-21-2011 at 03:08 PM by VETDRMS ('97 TSi AWD Auto 2.4 Build Project)

I picked up the FIC 2150s on Friday.

One of the injector tips didn't look like it was machined very well, is this going to cause cone/spray distribution to be off?

I ran it down as much as possible...

Well my dd trailblazer SS hydro-locked and will need a new engine and I just don't have the money to squeeze that into everything else so the day I said and hoped would never come is here...I have to part out the talon. Engine finally went in last night!!!

Posted 05-20-2011 at 09:30 AM by spyderdrifter (95 GST rebuild/upgrade)

After months of stressing over my engine build, parts not arriving like they should, and small set backs here and there, I finally got my engine timed last night for $20 and now it's resting in it's rightful location all snug in the engine bay. I know everything I need for the engine to start (fuel, spark, etc...) is good. I'm still a little leary of the timing since this guy did it so quickly, and...

The New Setup

Posted 05-19-2011 at 02:21 PM by laserspeeddemon
Updated 07-01-2011 at 11:16 PM by laserspeeddemon

This time around, I'm not holding back any punches. No more seeing what a 16g will do on stock fuel pump. This time I go with a large turbo, built motor, built head built trans and a fuel system able to keep up. I'm even throwing in a few dress-ups for the ride. The goal is to test the limits of the H1E on a pump, daily driven car. I am hoping for AT LEAST 550 AWHP or a 10 second time slip. We'll...

Little bit of bad news maybe

Posted 05-17-2011 at 12:13 PM by boredog (1997 GST DD looking for 300whp)

Went to talk to my tuner today and let them know that my boost was still creepin around to a lil below 20psi. Tuner said that max boost could only be 16 to 17 psi on pump. So ill needa fix that before the tune. I thot boosting to 18-19 would be fine but i dont know how this will work out. Will keep it updated

My 1997 2gb awd talon build

Posted 05-16-2011 at 08:53 PM by godschylde777

Ok, here goes....after getting ripped off by a local shop I have decided to build my own car, and thus far it has been a success. What I don't know I Google, and I have paid close attention to detail, and tried to build a dsm, not only I could be proud of but we all could. Some thing you may like others you may not, but one way or another feel free to comment good or bad I welcome it.

Valve cover and paint

Posted 05-15-2011 at 07:55 PM by spyderdrifter (95 GST rebuild/upgrade)

So after many weeks of off and on concidering going through the struggle of shaving one of my spare valve covers, I finally decided to do it and give it the rain effect paint job. I was a damn b@#*h at first when I started the grinding. Ended up getting a much coarser grit griding wheel and then breezed through the shaving. Then the sanding took a while to do, but in the process, I filed all the cast...

16g and MBC doesnt seem to work? Intake touching wastegate nipple? Solution!

Posted 05-15-2011 at 03:53 PM by boredog (1997 GST DD looking for 300whp)

Well if people with similar builds as me are following this and run into the problems i have here is the solution. The nipple on the wastegate was in a postion where it would poke the hose on it for the MBC against the intake so that it would not have any control on boost. The intake that was on it was an FP 4 inch. My local performance shop told me i would need to buy a new intake. So i did and purchased...

VP110 and more boost + lowering coolant temps

Posted 05-15-2011 at 11:20 AM by VETDRMS ('97 TSi AWD Auto 2.4 Build Project)

I'm slowly getting to the point to see what this new combo will do. I picked up some VP110 today to see if the knock I was seeing was mechanical noise or if this thing just really doesn't like pump gas.

Turns out it doesn't like pump gas. I started turning it up a bit. My transmission is still acting weird on the 1-2 shift so I need to sort that out. With some more timing (+2) and 16psi...
