Been out at my parents place for the past couple of days helping my Dad bust up a concrete wall with a Jack Hammer. Between that I've been doing some wrenching on the Talon.
Easiest mod ever, though I'll likely change it because I want to overhaul the cooling system, 12" fan on the rad. ...

My talon has been sitting for a while waiting. I finally took initiative to buy some things:
Whats in the bay:
Ebay 16g,
Stock fuel,
Broken studs,
Boost/Vaccum leaks,

This is my custom v-band o2/downpipe for the Holset's non-wastegated 12cm^2 turbine housing. I performed all the cutting and fitting, taped it together, then took it to my local welder to finish the job. Boy does he do good work Not the funnest part of the build, but, I am very proud of this piece. It definitely took many hours to get the fitment perfect, and worth every effort.

To quench this 2.3's thirst for E85, I picked up a set of FIC high-Z 1680cc injectors. The idle on these should be near stock!
My hx35 oil drain setup is shown here. I fitted a pipe to a drain flange, had an EMT conduit sweep welded to the oil pan, and connected them both with Vibrant high-temp...

After 3-4 years of driving around with an aging stock 2.0L with less than stellar compression numbers, I finally gathered up the time, funds, and materials to tackle a rebuild. I wanted torque, lots of it, and this is how it came together:
Ok so I have a 1990 eagle talon tsi awd. It was my first DSM, you can say this car broke my DSM cherry , I bought it back from the kid I sold it to a few years ago I picked it up a few weeks ago. When I sold it to him I sold it as a shell no motor, no trans, no transfer case, no drive shaft, no rear end, and no axles because he had a 90 that he had wrecked and twisted the body apparently. Well...
For those who are curious about the 2gb Talon spoiler and what's involved to use this on; say.. a 2ga car.. here's a little "primer."
A few years ago, woke up one day and thought that a 2gb Talon conversion would be a super duper fantabulous idea. All went according to plan except for one piece: The spoiler.

I started with a head that was milled and had the oil port mod done. The head got new engnbldr valves and guides with some BC springs and retainers. All of this was assembled from the machine shop. All install heights and spring pressures where checked.

Tooooooo many photos is what it said when I tried to upload soooooo..... here is part 3
Now get the top cover of the case and make sure that it is clean. Install the new reverse cone and the reverse wave spring with NEW machine screws. Torque the machine screws to spec.

Wow, it has been some time since I made a post. I was sent to a school for a month and now that I am back I have just been working to get this thing together. This post will be the finishing of the Transmission assembly. Here it goes. The last thing I posted the 1st case section was just installed.

Met a Guy on Craigslist and he works for ets. He sold Mr his piping for 100$ and got me a core for 250$. Beats 799$ lol. I had to do some cutting and had to make a new coolant overflow but all in all it was fairly simple. I had to tap my j pipe so I could hook up my boost controller. The front mount had two brackets on top so you can bolt right up to you bumper core

Car runs again after the oil pan re-seal. Also got the Thermal exhaust modded to fit that 3" DP. So naturally, there's a leak at the DP to 02 housing now. ha..
Going to buy another gasket for that tomorrow. Also noticed that the WB gauge appears to be on the fritz. When datalogging with the laptop, the WB A/F reads a steady 14.7 to 15.0. However the gauge...
In this update I have started to install the interior wiring harness. I started from the back and worked my way forward. This will be one of the least exciting updates. I am personally pumped when I can get the dash back in, install my Sparco seats and install my Schroth harness! Stay tuned!
In the next update I will be messing with the Stack wiring, the front interior harness, rewiring...

Ok, So not a whole lot going on with the car this week. Dropped the oil pan, since it was leaking. Also took the test pipe to get it expanded to fit over the Thermal exhaust. That exhaust had the wrong flange on it; so had to cut it off. It was made for a stock downpipe, not a 3" one.
Also worked some more on the interior and made sure the radio still works. It does! Yay!...

After waiting 90 days I polished/waxed the newly painted panels after the accident. I used a wildberry bumper that as completely stripped and any stress fractures were repaired. It turned out great and the shop did a good job on matching. Both the bumper and the rear quarter panels were painted.

I found the source of the 2-3 shift flare. It looks like it is TCU related as it shifts just fine using a shift box that simulates 100% TPS and forces full line pressure.
It is running good, now that the 2-3 shift is sorted out I will schedule some dyno time.
Well, nothing much has happened since the interior was sprayed. I wanted to allow for enough time for the paint to dry.
I started to install the pedals. And I also picked up some OEM body plugs from the dealer!

I'm working on building my 420a motor but just don't have the money to do a big build yet. So I've been doing small things to the inside, like painting the air vents blue a long with the center console.

So when I rebuilt my motor I had to put a crank in it. I bought the crank from the machine shop and it came with acl tri metal bearings, I got 1200 miles on it and it started knocking turned around went home droped the pan and number three was loose pulled the motor. Took her all apart and dropped the crank off at the machine shop along with all four rods to be checked. Time to build thought came...
Well, after many hours of prep work I finally finished painting the interior. From the outset I didn't have any experience doing body work, there was a learning curve to this whole project and I came away with a much better understanding of what goes into body work. I wish I could stress the amount of hours I spent prepping, scrapping, grinding on the inside, also removing every plug, screw, nut,...

TrboBLu decided that she really, really likes life up on jackstands. Either that or she has a thing against the Brad Penn green oil. Regardless, a leak developed from behind the timing cover. Fearing the worst, the cover was removed... but come to find out it's just the oil pan.

All I know is that on my way home last night at about 10pm it was running great, I got on it a little and all of a sudden it started sputtering like it had blown an I.C. coupler. so I tried to get it to where I was able to pull over into a parking lot so I could work safely and eventually it just straight died and now it wouldn't re-start.So there it sits in a parking...

Today I finally had some time to work on the car and started testing components. Most components are fine such as CAS, spark plug wire, coilpack, power transistor, etc.
I have spark, fuel I think which is due to smelling like fuel after a few clicks, and air maybe? My MAF is fine maybe the connector?
Codes came up after like 10 cranks which are P0105,p0115,p0120.

Back again for another story? Well this tale is about the AC that could not cool.
A long time ago, I once had AC, it was nice while I used it but for the most part, it only came alive to defog my windshield. What a sad boring life for this unit. Longing to please the people in the car, it just could not cool well enough.
I now have moved on to test fitting the new Sparco Circuit seat that I have. I also decided to upgrade to a much better harness too, I decided on the Schroth Profi II Hans 6pt. Schroth supplies harnesses to all the Nascar teams, probably 50% of the F1 teams, and Porsche Motorsports uses only Schroth. I once had a Team Tech 4pt harness, and the difference in quality is very evident. What I like is...
Well, it turned out to be a long road of waiting to get it all back together but it is finally running again!
Once I got the deck cleaned up to start lapping I noticed that the gasket actually failed in 4 spots, the worst of them being on cylinder 2 at the front of the block. Both cylinders 2 and 3 failed directly in front and in back of the cylinder:

She's alive and kicking! Yesterday rolled it over on the stock ECU (just incase something was haywire with the wiring...) Today swapped it to the DSMLink-chipped ECU. Loaded the last tune into the computer, which had the correction for the GM MAF; then let her run for a good half hour or so. Here's a short video of the car running.

Got the bumper on the car today; with the headlights. Also put on the coolant hoses for the turbo, spark plugs and wires. Now just got to modify the exhaust, continue to figure out what bolts go where, and just keep on truckin'.

I bough the paint and everything else. I continue to grind away at the seam sealer. There is a lot of dust. Prepping with red scotch brite pads by hand (this sucks). As you can see, all the sound deadening and seam sealer is removed! That was by far the most time consuming part, besides removing everything from the interior!

Here it is all put together. Just waiting on a few little things then its off to the alignment shop.
One issue. I have raised the car 3 times and adjusted the coilovers and every time the measurements are off. Should I just ask the alignment shop to do this since they have a completely flat/leveled surface to work with?

Ok, so up to this point I've been working hard to strip my car. Now the fun part can start- prepping the metal for the paint. Actually, this part sucked and taught me that it takes a lot of time. It's fairly easy to do, but it just takes a lot of time!
The sound deadening in the trunk on the wheel tubs was the most difficult to remove. I think I spend 3 hours on each side chipping away the...

The idea of this build is a very quick spooling turbo with a big emphasis on low-end torque, with a suspension setup that picks up some of the slack left by the understeering stock setup. I plan to take this to autocross events and the drag strip maybe once every two weeks but its duties will be mainly as a summer daily driver. To keep this car fun on the streets, low-end torque and decent cornering...
Ok, so the progress has fairly stagnant lately. I started from the back of the car and have worked my way forward. It has been a lot of work to get to the front. Another thing to note: I removed the A/C unit and the heater unit. That will free up some room under the dash!
After the last of the wires are out it will be time to start prepping for paint!

So I got the 2100 Clutch installed, found that I have a Act flywheel already so I took back my OEM one. I put on my new axles and got the new slave cylinder hooked up... I found that I have a Missing rear moter mount bolt which sucks now I gotta find one somewhere but that shouldn't be too hard I assume... I went ahead and check my master today and the 2100 beat the crap out of it so now I am going...

Ok, not much progress in this update. I did strip everything at least to half way. It took a lot of time to decide the order everything comes out in and to label every nut and bolt so it goes back together properly and easily. A lot of doubt was going through my mind at this point! What did I get myself into!
