Water/Alcohol Injection
I read an article today about Water/Alcohol Injection... I'm considering adding this to the TO-DO List, or FUTURE UPGRADE lists. It sounds great, but I'll have to continue doing some research on it. Would I still have to get a BIG IC? Or Just a stock IC (or slightly bigger) + Water/Alcohol Injection? Is it worth the money?

Go big FMIC / piping first, you will never have to refill the bottle.

actually there are many people who dont even use an intercooler once they get alchohol injection. The charge temp cools down that much with meth that intercoolers dont really make THAT much of a difference. I know many GN and Regal owners who run this way.

true many people do ditch there ic for water injection. I personal can see the use for both. When running both you will not need to run as large of nozzles to get your iat down.

hell yeah thats not surprising....the posibilties on alchohol are crazy, even with a stock setup you could see big increase in power potential, let alone once some money has already been spent...I dont see why more people dont think about investing in methanol injection as one of their first to-do's. My dad and my uncle both run alchohol injection on their Turbo-T's and they're running high twelves with basically stock rebuilds. (gotta give love to the buicks, but I've got both of their cars in my crosshairs)

My buddy works at a Saab dealership that sells the Aquamist system. So, he pretty much gets to try out all the little goodies that go along with the most expensive system. On his car the stock compression ratio is 9:1 and he runs 25psi with the stock side mount and gets no knock. BTW, he runs the blue washer fluid so that in the winter it doesn't freeze. That thing screams on the highway. Pretty weird to see an old Saab 900 Turbo beating the crap out of a vette on the highway.

Regardless of your current setup, a lot of power will come from this due to the fact that you will be able to lean out your AFR a lot and throw more timing at it.

THing is I heard you needed something to tune with before getting this upgrade. So, I have to wait a while until I have enough cash for a DSMLink AND alcohol/water injection.

you wouldnt need a tune just some sort of logger to check for knock if your really trying to push it...but overall alchohol is a relatively safe way to make some serious power.

let me rephrase that....you should get it tuned but that doesnt mean you would have to wait to juice your car if you wanted. Just incremental adjustments and familiarity with your car.

This thread may be of interest to you. Both meth/water injection and FMIC do best for a daily driver especially.
. . . And those that don't want to 'refill the bottle' are, what, too lazy for over 100% intercooler efficiency? ![]() |
