Blog Title: I got myself another D.arn S.tinking M.itsubishi (DSM)
So i ended up taking a nice long road trip (280 miles) and picked up a 96 Talon TSI AWD. originally it was suppose to have an engine and transmission with it, but after some extenuating circumstances far beyond my control i was short both those and a transfer case (a story for another time perhaps). so i get it home and start tearing into it to see whats what. luckily not a hole lot of rust for being a Missouri car, the body is in Farly decent shape and it is only slightly bent up in the front end.

First order of business will be ,of coarse, to get it over to the DMV for the Vin inspection so i can get the title transfered to my name. then i can really start tearing into this thing. i am going to try to clean up as mush rust as i can with navel jelly, followed by a good spray of brake clean and primer/paint. then i am going to try to straighten up the front end and start putting her back together.

i could probably have it together and driving by this weekend but i think i have a couple of things i would like to do first. i had an issue with my eclipse (BTW that car got totaled and i am pulling the engine from it to put in the talon) running lean, so i want to tear the engine apart again and make sure i didn't brake a ring or burn trough the head gasket some where. that and it still leaks from when i rebuilt the engine, top line gaskets suck i will never use them again.

i am still trying to source out an AWD transmission for the right price. and it may have to wait until September or even march next year (income tax return) so i think it will be a FWD until then.

well until tomorrow when i can get some more pictures of the car for the hole world to see.......

well things are slowing down while i wait for answers as to weather on not i can/want to get a hold of parts from japan. so any way i have the engine about 90% complete. and everything is in the interior is all in except for the driver seat and the ecu. about all the interior needs is a little more cleanup and it should be done this week. as far as the engine goes all that is left is the TB, cams,...

well i seem to be making good progress for the moment but i am just about at a stand still on the engine. as it sits i can put the hole thing together and run with the ball for now but i am looking at a couple of minor upgrades. one of the guys i work with has a friend stationed at Kadina AFB. the last time they talked his friend was going to ship back an EVO3 turbo for my co-worker. so i talked to...

good weekend, i guess.

last weekend / this past week were pretty productive i guess. took a few steppes forward and only one step back-wards for the most part. finally got the transmission in place and the engine compartment about 90% done. about all that is left is hooking up the power steering, getting a couple of wire harnesses squared away, and a few miscellaneous brackets cleaned/painted and installed.

got some more work done to the Talon..... i should be able to put the transmission in some time tonight, unless i end up with a mad cleaning bug. i don't think it will be much of a problem though, the plan is to swap over to AWD sometime in the beginning of next year (as soon as i get the tax return back). so i don't see myself doing a hole lot of work to clean something up that i am just going to...

Posted 08-29-2009 at 11:00 AM by mike96 (I got myself another D.arn S.tinking M.itsubishi (DSM))

well it has been about a week and a half since i got things started. the family and i made a trip to phoenix for 5 days in the middle there so i had a little brake and didn't get much done, not to mention that i am not on leave any more so that tends to slow progress down a bit. this has ended up turning into a full on firewall forward rebuild, i ended up pulling the entire front end apart and cleaning...

Posted 08-17-2009 at 11:49 PM by mike96 (I got myself another D.arn S.tinking M.itsubishi (DSM))

well i didn't get to much done today. got a couple of pictures taken some parts i was going to sell cleaned up a little and started working the front and out. i started by trying to straighten what was on the car out but that proved to be a little more difficult then i originally thought. so i have started pulling the front end off the eclipse actually not as difficult as i thought it would be. i...
