HX 52 1G build-up
Posted 10-04-2009 at 08:21 PM by Maglin
Well after a few years of collecting parts and starting and stopping the build of my HX52 the day of finishing it is finally approaching.
I got my HX52 back in 06 maybe even 05. I had already built 2 cars with a HX35. The Holset's are just great turbo's and they just work. I had popped my HG on my warped head after a water pump failure in Las Vegas when I had my HX35 on. I had compromised a lot during that build and I finally decided that I wasn't going to compromise this time around and so it took me a very long time to get the parts I wanted. The last part would be getting the head assembled and machined which I finally just got done and now everything is starting to go together and in the car.
Parts:
Holset HX52
6 Bolt bored .030 over
Weisco 8.3:1 Pistons
Scat rods
ACL naked bearings
BC SS Standard size valves
FFWD BeeMad springs
Fierra Bronze and Copper ally valve guildes
Revised HLA's (Lifters)
FFWD King Kams
Fidenza Adjustable Cam Gears
ATI Super Dampener
FFWD Forward Facing Filter Bracket
Gates Racing Timing Belt
1650cc Blue Max FIC injectors
FIC Fuel rail
-8 Feed/ -6 AN feed and return line from the tank
Two 255 LPH non HP fuel pumps
Full Blown duel pump hanger
JMF Drag intake
75mm Mustang Power Products Throttle body
DNP T4 Exhaust Manifold
44mm Tial WG
50mm Tial Q BOV
24x12x4" FMIC w/3" IC piping
Their is a lot more but those are the broad strokes. I decided it was time for some pics so I went into the garage and snapped a few tonight. Please don't pick on my mess as my 2 car garage is way to small for the car and all the various other stuff I have collected through the years.
So here is the engine in it's current state. It's just waiting for my Degree wheel to get here to degree in the cams and then it's ready to install the rest of the lifters and put the covers on it and install.

Here is a good shot of the FFWD King Kams lobes. They are quite large and dwarf a lot of other cams out their. They are not really a great street cam and are meant for max effort engines with top end power in mind.

Here is a few shots of the firewall and front of the car. I'm currently rebuilding the wiring harness and removing and moving a lot of things. The task looks daunting when you see it all at once.

And here are a few pics of some of the parts just laying around awaiting installation.

Oh yeah almost forgot the duel pump hanger. I had to move the tank down some to be able to fit the AN fitting under the stock covers. I'm waiting for a few new short radius AN fitting to come in to give it a little more room.

Ok so that is it for now. In the next week I hope to have the motor and tranny installed and most of the wiring finished. Then it's putting the MegaSquirt in and actually getting it started.

Thanks for all the comments.
Yeah the One FMIC you can see is my old one. The new one is behind the radiator and you can just see the outlet sticking out behind it. It's the same size but is 4" thick as the old one is 3".
I'm going to kept the power down below 700HP I think until next year. At least that is the idea for now. I plan on getting a butcher crank with aluminum rods next spring. I would actually probably end up getting a new set of slugs as well and go with a longer rod to get some more top end out of it but atm these are just ideas.
Their is enough fuel for 1000HP and injector to match. I only have a 1 bar spring in the Tial WG so 30 PSI is going to be my limit over the winter. I want to kept the car on the street and not break drivetrain parts. Although I am getting a set of Bridgestone RE-11's on the car over the winter to replace the Dunlop FM-901's.
My AN fitting with sitting just over 1/2" over the access cover on my tank. The hanger with the fittings to go to AN just make it to tall. I dropped my tank 1/2" and it's just on the edge if being to big. The SS line will run on the floor and eventually run a hole in the line. I have new AN fittings that should be here tomorrow that should fix the issue. I hope to have some more progress on the motor and fuel system Wednesday. I hope to have the motor and tranny in the car by Thursday. I have to get some paint for the tranny and paint it so it doesn't look out of place in the cleaned up engine bay.Posted 10-05-2009 at 09:29 PM by Maglin

I kind of don't stay focused. I do something until It's either finished or I run out of parts, or I run into a problem that I can't fix right then. Then I move onto another system until the same thing happens.
I have the motor all put together now minus the manifolds. I'm debating on swapping out my water pipe with -16 AN line which I want to do before I install the motor. I might just use my old solution and replace it down the road IDK atm though.
As for the pumps the non HP pumps are far quieter. I already had one so I went with 2. I know that the car is going to be so loud that any pump noise would probably go unnoticed, but I also only plan on running 40-45 PSI of boost and they will be more than enough with 2 of them.
I'll have more pics very soon as I'll probably just forget the cooling system SS lines for a bit and just do it in the car. I'm just going to have to make a modified heater pipe.Posted 10-08-2009 at 10:15 PM by Maglin
