Trails of War: Trouble at home.

Well, it's been a while since I posted. Alot has gone on, I was put in charge of the IT shop behind the Officer in charge (OIC). So I am the Non-commissioned Officer in charge of the S6 shop (NCOIC). I was made back-up gunner for Convoys using the M2 (.50 cal). We've done 100s or hours worth of training. I got rolled in a HUMM-V
Life was good until a few days ago. I called home and talked to my wife. My wife had her hands full cooking dinner so she tried to pass me off to my son Kia (3 yrs old). Kai refused and ran away. She chased him down and gave him the phone, but he wouldn't talk to me. The only thing he said was "I want to give the phone to mommy, now." So he did. My wife was shocked and started talking to me. And I asked her, "Is Kai mad at me?" So she asked Kai, "Kai, are you mad at daddy?" He said "Yes."
"Why are you mad at daddy?"
"Because daddy is at work and won't come home"
That broke my heart, my son hates me. I've tried twice to talk to him since then. But when he knows it's me he covers his ears and curls into a ball. He clinches his eyes shut and stuff his face into his knees. I miss him so much. I wish he would talk to me.
This is one of the many unseen sacrifices a soldier surrenders in his call to duty. Never forget that.

He doesn't understand that, yet. Maybe in time.

It is tough for the kid. And he is too young to understand the events in his life. Don't hold this against him. Just tell him you love him, and keep trying to talk to him.
I'm a navy brat my father would be deployed for 6-9 months at a time then back for 1 month and then back out again. I acted similarly when my father called and all he wanted to do was say hello. He'll grow out of it. Just sucks right now for you and I am sure you are missing your wife, your home and your child. |
