Introduction Part 3: Chassis
To me, it seems that too many people are focused on horsepower more than chassis mods. That's a shame, because it stands to reason that if you build a car to go real fast, you might want to make it stop real fast, too. Brakes are just part of the equation, though. There's wheels, tires, struts, springs, and a host of other items. Handling is a big deal.
Here are the quick details:
- Volk TE37 wheels in 17x8 with a 38mm offset
- 245/40/17 tires, leaning towards BFG g-Force T/A KDW
- JDM Galant front steering knuckes (with ABS sensors) for:
- Lancer Evolution 8/9 Brembo brake conversion
- Tein Flex coilovers with pillowball upper mounts
- RRE rear camber correction kit
- Upgraded rear sway bar
- Energy Suspension bushings
- Tanabe Sustec front and rear chassis underbraces (it's a convertible, the more bracing the better)
- Strut tower brace

I gotta agree with you. I much prefer the holistic approach to a performance car. I haven't even done all the things you are going to be doing but upgraded brakes were a priority when i bought the Talon. And i had to get the obscene amounts of body roll under control. Not only is the Talon faster in straight line acceleration than all of my friends cars, none of them car stop as fast and none of them can corner and canyon carve like mine.
