I'm done with DSMs

Posted 07-19-2008 at 03:39 PM by KPEclipse
I can't do this anymore. This kills me. This car has driven me NUTS for this long ass period of time, and I continue to put up with it.

Today, I was just out putting miles on it to go to the movies, when it starts smoking like CRAZY. When I say crazy, I mean like CRAZY. Before I took it out, I added some coolant, and checked the dipstick, because the car had a light, LIGHT oil leak. I check the stick...NO OIL ON IT.

Wow. I guess that lil drip isnt the only place the oil is going. I put 4 and lil more quarts of synthetic back in. Start her up after resetting the battery, no problem. Idles good, all good. Take it around the block, NO PROBLEM. Soon as I go more than 3 miles from my house, SMOKE EVERYWHERE. White smoke from the muffler, and from the drivers side of the motor, where of course the oil pump, and all the timing components are. I just put over $2000 worth of parts and labor into this 6bolt swap...FOR THIS!? Yeah, right. Someone else can deal with it. Soon as I get someone to fix it, it will be for sale

Full Race trans, upgraded this and that, and all for what, so it can blow up? Hell no. My money is well spent on a honda or some other bullshit then this. I have so much SHIT in this car, and yet it still refuses to run. All the time, and research and help and ALL, for this!? I have ZERO money right now. I can't even put gas in it, and look at this...na man. Eff that

Even if it gets fixed and is back to driveability, im selling it. Everytime the car gets to a point where it COULD rip, something breaks. Eff that.

Tell all your friends - silver 2g FWD F/S. Full Race trans and mad other upgrades if they want it.

7k obo.

Fixing it right the first time helps keeping stuff from breaking, that and general/routine maintenance.

Every car can go through the exact same thing you have, given its neglected. Either that or its a lemon...its up to your car being built on a Monday(hung over day) or a Friday(lets get the F#@! outta here day). Tuesday through Thursday your more then likely safe.

yeah everyone says they are reliable cars if you keep them in good shape but then you look at the recent posts and 99.9% of them are basicly "my cars broken what happened", having problems with my *", I fixed the * and now my car wont start". DSM: if your car aint broke, you are.

get a camaro and be done with it

my buddy has a 98 prelude that he has over 20 grand in, TWENTY GRAND MAN and guess what stock cams with built everything else...runs worse than when it was stock i could write a book about the shit he has been through with that car and guess what? It a HONDA...I know weird aint it? Just goes to show you the circumstances applied to the car are what make the difference.

well the headgasket is brand the f new, copper sprayed, the whole 9, and theres only one way it fits on the block, i mean, its hard to fvck that up

its hard with this car man. like when it runs, it runs good...but its always something SO DUMB. like ill get it all together, it'll run for a month, and even something stupid like spark plugs, and it runs like crap. then it takes a week to get plugs ### i need one range colder...i dont really know

i love it though. i cant lie, i dont WANT to get rid of it, but if im not leaking oil, my idle sucks. if my tires are good, my car needs an alignment. like i dont understand sometimes, and whats crazy is, i really don't beat on it. i dont barely put miles on it. its only seen the track once EVER.

when i 1st put the 14b on this past fall, i fell in love all over again. but its like as soon as i start to love the machine, it breaks. i don't even know what ISNT aftermarket on the car. its just frustrating because i know if i could get someone, ANYONE, to get the car to run right, it'll rip and WONT BREAK. i'll run 18 psi all day long if i can get it to run right. change the oil, change the trans fluid, and LEAVE THE CAR ALONE. thats seriously all i want.

if u see my older post, my plan is/was to get some bigger injectors, go to an external gate, and never put a dime in it. sometimes i feel like whats the point of being fully built? you can't fully build an oil pump or water pump, and if that goes, GOOD NIGHT CAR. i love the power i love the speed the community, the whole nine, but can't a guy have a nice 12 second car and just perform maintenance on it?

i can relate to that...I got my Talon AWD and was new to the dsms...first day i had it broke the tranny...got it fixed 3 months later, broke the center differential the 1st NIGHT...waited another 3 months got it fixed, had the car for 2 weeks and broke the center diff. again...now after another 4 months I have it back and thats $12,000 later...I went broke with it and got a shepherd stage 3 trans and new everything...ive been to the point of selling it, but its either love it or hate it!

I mean, you bought a used motor and you just want everything to work? These aren't legos bro. My car hasn't moved in a year and a half. I'm going to be backing out of the driveway tomorrow. I fully expect another $500 in repairs atleast. I'll be in NJ from the 1st to the 10th if you need/want any help tho.

Hey man don't give up just pull the motor and look to see whats not right. Did you have the head and block decked? any little bit of uneven surface will mess you up. Also a headgasket is really only good when its put on once, if you take the head off or even loosen it at all that gasket maybe comprimsed.

the motor i had taken apart and inspected by a friend of mine who has a fully built car, said it looked good. I understand that they won't always work, and my buddy is coming this week to hopefully be able to identify this leak, and hopefully thats the only problem.

$500 in repairs...i wish...since the motor has been out EVERYTHING that looked fishy has been replaced until i ran out of money....literally when i took the car apart, EVERYTING was replaced...both oil and water pumps...every gasket under the sun...

as for the head gasket, i only put the hg on, and bolted it down one time, torqued to spec with ARP moly lube...

now looking @ it, i think i need a new 2g throttle body - AHHHHHHHHHHHH

Pretty crappy man, I bought my Talon stock with 170,000 miles and ran pretty good for the miles, no smoke or anything, I replaced my tranny because second went out and the shaft broke, and just minor maintenance until now.

It just rolled over to 197,000 and still pulls hard with really no problems, ive had good luck with my Talon and love it, I say you take it apart and fix it, I bet youll miss it when you get rid of it.

if you only put the hg on and bolted it down that might be a part of your issue... i would never put a new hg on without getting the decks machined to be safe.

KP you already know how I feel.. DSM's are way too unreliable for a daily driver, I'm not giving up on DSM's but I'm definitely selling my car for something more reliable

I'll return to the 4g63 when I have money to burn on a a project car.. For now - I'm going with some rwd muscle that you just cant get with a 4 cylinder turbo

i traded my turbo civic for my 99 4g63 and the civic blew up monthes later howeveer my DSM is still running except for the fact that it leaks coolant in 10 out of 8 places. mine is for sale as well cause 15 mpg isnt my thing, if i want gas mileage ill drive my 03 5.7L 1500 over the DSM, however.... my jetta and its 40 mpg are more my style =]

I have had my 1g for three years almost four and I never once thought about selling it .Just think about it this way.Have you ever had something totally awesome like a dsm for instance and sold it and found some remorce for selling it some time later.Well I have and that feeling realley sucks.Especially when you see your old car driving down the street twenty times cooler looking and sounding way better than it ever did for you. Also why would you sell it for something more reliable when you cant even make enough money off of the thing to buy a new ride that is reliable.Just buy a cheap old car to drive while you work on that thing over time dont let it stress you out.
