Turn you speakers down. The wind noise is pretty bad.

Central PA Region SCCA - Mid-State Airport, just north of State College.

The course on Sunday was the same course as Saturday, but backwards.

Saturday was cold, cloudy, and windy. Steady winds of 35mph with gusts over 50. It was hard to keep heat in the tires, especially with 10+min between runs.

Sunday was better. The sun came out, but it was still windy.

I finally got around to installing an RM Racing rear sway bar (13/16"). This is the first weekend that I've had a chance to run the car with it. Wow did it make a difference. I think I'm going to put the front bar. The car is now a little bit twitchy. But some more seat time would be the best thing for me. Sadly, this was the last event of the year.

Mods in my profile are up to date.

Comin' in hot. Bit of brake lockup. (Saturday)

The skid is close to 30' long. Oops.

I also have a few vids of me spinning out and other mistakes. Might start a mistake compilation. I spin at least once every time I go to an event here.

    Great vids!

During my first year of autox, I used to spin at least once every event. It took me forever to realize that it was because I was braking & turning at the same time.

Definitely put that front RM bar on. It'll help reduce understeer by reducing front body roll and keeping the camber curve in its "happy place".

    I agree with Scott.

ps. it's weird for me to be seeing a non-orange DSM zipping around MidState; I wonder if anyone ever gives you grief that is really aimed at me

Many of the people there are rather new. And since I'm still not a good enough driver to be competitive in SM, they just let me do my own thing. I need a lot more seat time.

The only reason the front bar didn't go on between the Saturday and Sunday events was that my parents and grandparents decided to come into town to watch. So I had to entertain them Saturday night. Oh well.

My spins are usually because of me trying some adjustments to make the car looser, only to have it now want to snap oversteer.

Every body was spinning down that back runway. It was right after the start, so people were still trying to gain speed. They'd lift at the second gate and the car would suddenly snap around.

I'm the only DSM that ever goes.

That bump from the pad in front of the terminal to the one taxi way is pretty bad now. The surface gets worse and worse every year. With only 4 events at Mid-state a year, they are losing a lot of money that they used to have to fix stuff like that. The FAA screwed them over and won't let them rent out the airport to the SCCA as often as they used to.

Man, I wish that you had arrived before I left. It would have been so much fun to have two 2Gs in SM.

That bump was something I always worried about. We had one design that had us coming back towards the terminal from the right "arm," stay to the inside of the corner (i.e., far side of the pad), and fly onto the left taxi-way. I was so focused on the bump that I lifted at about 65, lost the tail, and slid backwards straight towards that huge tank of Av-gas, stopping less than twenty feet from it.

Definitely my single worst experience in any car ever.

The bump was harsh enough that even with 600lb/in springs and the Koni's on full stiff, I still hit the bump stops... hard. But I had to keep my foot in the gas or the back end would come loose when it hit the bump.

Looks like a pretty straight forward course, but not on the best of surfaces. Glad to see you're out there running the car!

The surface is nice and grippy, but it was also pretty rough. There are 3 types of pavement, and each has a completely different grip level. So adjusting the tire pressure was a compromise on which section you wanted the most grip.

    Looks great!

I missed our last event. Planning on jumping into it strong next season. My 2g needs some serious love though. May end up looking for an AWD roller and swaping over engine/etc. I hate rust.

Keep it up! You guys inspire me.

You're looking good. Those videos bring back some memories! I was able to run my gsx there a few times one summer while at PSU. What a blast!

Jtmcinder: I owe all the credit to you, you were so helpful those days and I learned a lot. Most fun I've had in my car. Thank you

    I'd be all for that.

The first Test and Tune is usually around April 15th, with events every other week after that.

There are quite a few nice parks around here. If people really wanted, I'll set something up. It's not hard to reserve a pavilion at any of the local parks.

What I'm really trying to find right now is a SnoX locally.

Ah. I might be partly to blame for the lack of SnoX events in CPR. They did a series one winter when I was still living there, in Paul S's back yard of all places, and I destroyed them. Complete and utter ownage. The last event, for example, I had a total time (rallycross scoring) of about 300 seconds. Second place was 365 seconds. This was in Cinder so a double-wishbone was killing cars on struts, including Scoobies and a race-prepped Golf. Only downside was the damage to the car: one front shock, one bent arm, and several holes in the radiator (once I got all the mud out of the nose). But I had a blast and that's when I decided the next (and now current) car would be an Evo.

One piece of advice: raise the car. Especially with that front-mount.

The car is getting a hefty raise for the winter.

There is some interest in getting the SnoX started back up at Paul's place. But that explains the looks I was getting when I mentioned running my Talon once I raised it on the snow tires.
