Blog Title: My $750 95 TSi AWD......Progress thread...
I lost my 95 GS-T last year due to my own stupidity and have been fiending for a DSM ever since. I found this car over a year later and It was retarded cheap so i bought it immediately. I was looking for this exact setup for 4 months and kept missing out on them. It had been sitting for over 2 years. I had seen it many times but never thought it was the one......
Picked it up for $750 with a blown clutch and needing a T/C. came with a BUNCH of spare parts like 2 heads and some old t-25's and MSD DIS-2. guy needed everything GONE. 149K and ran strong. 3rd head, original everything else. owner had it from 40K-when i bought it. Arizona & Virginia car most of its life.
1995 Talon TSi AWD 5-speed. Leather, ABS, EPROM
, sunroof, INFINITY 6-DISC stereo with WORKING Pioneer 6-disc changer in the back with the cradle for it. Everything but LSD rear. ALL original body panels, all with DSM sticker. Original paint. No accidents. I love time capsule cars
Picked it up 26 June 2010.
I realize this car was basically a GIFT, and I will treat it as such. I get a do-over

Black interior swap.....
Interior was FULLY GREY to start with.

(ditched the carpet)
This took the good part of a day, but was easy:

$50 Junkyard Pickup. no power control section, so i used my stock grey section and painted it white a-la Saleen style. yes they are black.
Turned out nicely. white is nice and glossy. gotta LOVE my junkyard finds
OH YEAH!!!! $200 already pulled from a car, wrapped up ready to go. from a 1999 GS spyder. they were pulled and stored in a junkyard bus.....at least they were preserved!

I had to hack out/hammer in the recline stops. that was a pain but i now have fully reclining seats.
FRESH painted side and lower panels. Looks great and seems to be durable!
the smudge is sweat from my hand, it came right off.

Used some meguiars interior cleaner...MAN that stuff looks like new!

Some people said NO to the white inserts. I think it breaks up all the black and looks great. it's not a TON of white, just enough for a splash of color. I'm gonna rock it.

UPDATE: here's the interior currently:

I know some people have not liked the white inserts. I FINALLY found a set of mint BLACK door inserts with buttons for $20. should be in this weekend. Also got some other random parts to include the center ashtray/cup holder in black.
-Coolant bottle is from an n/t and will be used for overflow as the stock one is blocked by the FMIC piping now. I have mounting brackets from an n/t spyder and hatchback, so I have 2 options to mount.

Things I have swapped to black:
-Full Dash w/cruise/fog controls and speaker covers
-Pass side airbag
-Full door insets
-Full Center console
-Radio surround
-Shift boot
-Steering wheel with black talon logo
-OEM non leather black shifter
-Leather seats
-Rear interior panels
-Sprayed/dyed carpet/cargo cover black
-Ultra flat paint on kick panels

I'm pretty sure that grey/black combo is what it looks like from the factory if you got a "Black" interior. This is how my GSX looks. Does anyone know if you those lower panels/glovebox ever came in black?Posted 12-06-2010 at 08:06 PM by CardShark

I have the OEM black interior as well, the glove box and knee panel cover is gray, if you want them black, get to painting.Posted 12-06-2010 at 09:37 PM by SpawnedX

trying to figure out the correct way to get more black into the interior.....
the seats i wish i could have recovered in black leather. i REALLY don't wanna lose the adjustable kidney sides. i love that and it's only on 95-96's. the black 99 seats don't have this.....so that's not cool. I know I can get a set of leathers for about $400-500 but that's used sparco torino range....so that would happen before 10 year old used seats.
any suggestions with the grey-to-black and seats?Posted 12-07-2010 at 08:35 PM by HaveBlue83

Katzkin.com. Pricey but top quality and they'll recover your factory seats perfectly. It all depends on how good your seat foam is really. You could save a little bit by buying used leather rear seats since people rarely sit back there and they're normally in perfect condition and should match well enough vs buying them from katzkin directly. It's your call but imho they're the way to go if you really want to keep the stock seats. On a side note, you could probably get them with the white inserts if you want the Saleen look and I'd also recommend painting the lower dash section black and use silver/brushed aluminum accents for the full Saleen treatment. Alternatively, you could repaint the door inserts gray to match the lower dash and use grey inserts on black leather. Ultimately, it's your call as to what YOU think looks good.Posted 12-08-2010 at 11:47 AM by 90moneypit

Actually, after looking at a couple Saleen interiors to refresh my memory, you need to paint the upper plastic section as well for the full effect. Just don't forget to spray a couple coats of clear over it as well to help with the inevitable fingerprints and scratches that happen no matter how careful you try to be!Posted 12-08-2010 at 11:52 AM by 90moneypit

yeah, i didn't wanna do ALL of that section white, i feel that's too much. I only painted it white to give the door panels a little color. all black is really boring to me.
my bro's car is all black except the doors there. i want all black seats and the rest of the interior black. I don't wanna botch up the grey with crappy paint. i need to figure out what dye/permanent solution will work.
seat covers are cool if they are tight. i looked up the katzkin, i do remember them being $$$ but nice.
I wish the eGay seats were made in a simple Sparco style and didn't look like crap. if it costs more than $500, i'll get Sparco's. i know one guy has the grey/black Sparco's that would look nice with the grey, but i kinda wanna get away from the grey theme
i know exactly what i want. it's just the way I go about it........Posted 12-08-2010 at 02:45 PM by HaveBlue83

looks like SEM Color Coat Landau Black is about the best for doing the lower plastics. It IS a paint, but it looks like the Dye's and this paint is about the same durability. they dyes, who knows if they really penetrate or not.

no, no, no! the best "paint" for interior plastics is Krylon's Camo paint, check it out... Krylon: Products: Camouflage Paint with Fusion Technology It's specifically made for hunting gear and outdoor stuff!
Get the flat black... and after 7 days then apply the normal armor-all, once you do that it matches the stock black color! Best part after 7 days it's it's chip resistant!!!
I've used this on all of my cars interiors. and I've never needed to repaint anything.Posted 12-09-2010 at 07:45 AM by ViciousLord

Aside from the seat assembly, the only other things in the picture that came factory black are the radio bezel and shifter boot. You'll either have a tan/black combo or gray/black combo from the factory that had the black trim. There is no true 100% black interior.
I'm honestly not a fan of the white you added but it does match the car. Get a black shifter boot and radio trim bezel and it'll look better.
If you want a different look (I'm currently doing this), go with black power window assembly and swap out the black leather panels for the gray leather.Posted 12-09-2010 at 02:15 PM by LiquidX

Nice find! Now all you need is a couple large cans of Kiwi shoe polish to bring back the color. Get the regular black and not the parade gloss though. You'll probably want to pull the seats back out for this one though as it can be a major PITA to buff everything. Trust me, you don't want to leave any wax behind to stain up your shirt and pants. Yes, I'm serious about using shoe polish (paste not liquid) to bring those seats back to like new condition. It looks like they've been neglected somewhat and left untreated, they'll be splitting in no time. Plus the shoe polish will 're-stain' them a uniform black. For a spit shine gloss you can even steal some pantyhose for a final buff. IT WORKS! Jeez, that all sounds like total horse shit but ask someone in the military if you doubt it.Posted 12-14-2010 at 01:47 PM by 90moneypit

when i hit up the garage when i'm not freezing i will try that out. def a good idea. i have treated the seats with some armor-all leather conditioner and the drivers seat is starting to soften up with use. the pass side is still stiff (as they usually don't see much use).
no panels on the lower half of the dash and console sides were black. you have to paint them to get that look.
side note, i got my first taste of AWD fun in the snow today

Black shoe polish works great until summer time
BMW sells some great leather care products. I have used it and had great success with it.

I like Meguires for long term leather care. Stay away from Armor All if you can, it's a temporary fix that turns into an addiction... You ever wonder why some cars have cracked dashes and others don't? Armor all in the beginning that tapered off as the years went by. Armor all tends to 'wick' oils out when it dries so every time it goes from wet look to dry look, it actually has less oil in it than the last time! Stick with conditioners or 'leather food' type products if you can and stay away from anything that says quick detail and is interior related. Meg's exterior detailer is pretty good though.Posted 12-20-2010 at 06:23 PM by 90moneypit

Good stuff but too much and it can bleed out onto your clothes. I'd use that occasionally and the meg for your monthly upkeep. Do that and you should have no worries for years to come.Posted 12-21-2010 at 03:25 PM by 90moneypit

Looks great. Had my last eclipse ('97 spyder) almost completely black inside. Only had the rear seats and carpet left when I lost it. The swap is in progress on my new one, just got black door panels and center console shipped out today. As for the gray knee panels, those are getting painted to match the body color when I get it repainted.Posted 12-30-2010 at 01:11 AM by spyderdrifter

The '99 black interior from the factory isn't straight black, its two toned with gray and keeping it OEM looking as possible is always nice. I did the full black leather interior swap a few years ago for $350 and got EVERYTHING so don't let someone rip you off because it is 11yrs old.
I think its sweet you did the swap in the Talon because they never made it to '99 and got black leather interior, only the Eclipse. Looks good and good luck finding some rear seats.Posted 01-02-2011 at 12:12 PM by gofer
