@#$@#$ dipstick!!

Well I was driving to my girlfriends, she lives about 35 miles away(one-way)...when I was getting off the intersection,I noticed my oil pressure was right on the little mark on the gauge. It usually is higher, about the middle, when cruising,so immediately I worry, because it was dropping before I even stopped. Pull up to my ladies house(2 block from intersection)and pop the hood to find a bit of oil on the underside of the hood and a bit over the valve cover. Damn it my dipstick popped up!! I've never had this happen before, and I'm freaking out because I don't know if it happened before I got on the interstate or not...I usually check the gauges more but I was jamming out to some 80's music and just cruisin. So I let the car(and myself)cool down for a few and check the oil level...it's where it should be,I don't get it. I checked it again later, the same. Took it out for a spin, and now the oil pressure goes up to where it normally did, then drops to the line quicker than it did before. The dipstick never popped up again but I never boosted either since then...christ I only have my boost set at 9psi(stock auto),it's not like I'm trying to race every at every stoplight!! Today I'm ordering a new oem dipstick and pcv valve and oil cap,and changing my catch can(I used an inline fram fuel filter, the 3 dollar job),and if that doesn't work time to call the mechanic that rebuilt my motor(less than 3,000 miles on it),gotta love these DSM's,never a dull moment!! Glad I have another vehicle to drive until I figure out where the backpressure is coming from.

If you want to fix this, put a small hose clamp around the end of the dipstick tube, and the loop a zip tie through the ring handle of the dipstick. Put the loop over the screw part of the hose clamp and tighten just enough so it holds. Trim, and now you have a re-usable dipstick retaining mechanism.

That's a great suggestion but I need to find out why I have crankcase backpressure, why my dipstick popped...cars don't do that unless there is a problem somewhere

Indeed but the dipstick tube shooting oil everywhere isn't exactly where I'd want my crankcase pressure indicator. Check compression and do a leakdown test.

I'm expirencing the same issues with my '91 gvr4. I got the dipstick tied down, but would like to solve the real problem. When I ran a compression test some time ago all my cylinders were within spec on both dry and wet test. So what gives?
