'92 TSI Complete Rebuild From Firewall Forward - Part 3

Quote:
second picture looks like its shiny on the left and dull on the right
This was mostly due to the lighting and camera. There actually wasn't much difference from one side to the other.

Thanks for the comments!

Both pictures of the bearings look pretty good with minimal wear, however second picture looks like its shiny on the left and dull on the right. Maybe someone else was in there before you were.
Anyway thrust bearings like those will have an faint orange appearance when they begin to really wear out. - Mine had this when i pulled my motor at 145k and my last compression test did 120 across the board. Except for the bearings being worn i was thoroughly surprised with the condition of the internals for such a high mileage motor.

G'luck man I'll be checking your new posts as they roll in.

Really, because the one we have redlines at the same place and the engine sounds pretty much identical to the turbo guage when it was redlined

The exact same thing happened to me with a little more damage. I broke both compression rings on cylinder one resulting in 40psi reading vs 155psi in the other 3. No block damage luckily despite a spoonful of metal shavings. This makes me want to spend some more time while its out to be rebuilt.

Homecoming

Haha thats funny, yeah it was filthy man...took three bottles of cleaner to get it back to a normally dirty engine...but we just pulled the engine/tranny/transfer last night so the fun has just begun

It could be just me but that engine bay is so dirty that it almost looks like that thing was set on fire once lol.
