G4CS Machined!
There were several shops around tracy area who would have loved to do my engine for about 150 bucks less than what rob charged me, but none of them had the torque plate. So once again I went the right path and bit the bullet.
You got a PM inc rennatPosted 01-23-2010 at 03:16 PM by Atuca

G4CS Machined!
He did my friends STI stuff, hes a pretty straight up dude.
Good call on using a torque plate! Im glad some people understand how to truly bore and hone.
And i have a valve holder + compound to lap those valves for ya btw.Posted 01-23-2010 at 02:02 PM by rennat

Starting over
If you put in new rings the cylinders have to be rehoned so the rings seat properly, I would just use the same rings if they had even good compression. Oh and i don't think they should have to come off.Posted 01-23-2010 at 10:54 AM by joescool2008

Baby Steps......
fans are a bitch sometimes
not sure really on the fans part. it wouldn't be a problem if i were to re-do the J pipe. if i re-did that i wouldn't have a problem. there would be plenty of room.... but do i really want to mess with that right now.... i don't know....Posted 01-23-2010 at 09:37 AM by mike96

My 96 GSX Build in progress Part 1
Dnt worry about the fenders or hatch, just do the hood and use the rest of the money somewhere else. What are you aiming for in your setup at the dyno?Posted 01-22-2010 at 08:12 PM by DWR-DSM

G4CS Machined!
This was taken with my cell phone, they are by no means high quality. I can't feel any ridges on the crank with my fingernail, lets hope that is good enough.
I probably should have brought a friend who knows how to build engines with me to keep the machinest honest, but tbh, Rob's has been in business for years and years, I paid them well for their name... I'm sure its all gravy.Posted 01-22-2010 at 06:10 PM by Atuca

G4CS Machined!
Looks good and keep it updated. The crank however, it looks like there are still streaks on it. They don't seem to be scratches by any means, but I was under the impression they should be spotless after a micro-polish.Posted 01-22-2010 at 05:59 PM by LiquidX

Occasionally, that's the plan if it gets good numbers on the dyno and tuner gives it a green light on motor health. no drivetrain upgrades yet, any suggestions? I'll probably do clutch and flywheel first.
And also thinking about *fiber hood, fenders, and hatch. I need to keep it stock looking because I will still daily drive once or twice a week if that.Posted 01-22-2010 at 05:22 PM by eazy2g

like i said, you have to take them off no matter what or they will be damaged when taking the piston off the rodPosted 01-21-2010 at 09:44 PM by 1SickAuto

you will have to take rings off and you might as well just get new ones, but i guess old ones will work if you dont break them getting them offPosted 01-21-2010 at 02:32 PM by 1SickAuto

8g galant/evo VIII awd build
master jared, I suggest to change all the maintance parts first, timing belt head gasket, head studs, waterpump, thermostat, and all the fluids, and seafoam the car, these are the number one parts that if you change them before throwing 306hp at your car it will last. my friend didn't do any of this when he bought a 1g awd and was highly ticked off when he tried to launch it and he blew the headgasket, he kept running the car and ended up cracking the head. He blamed the car and after smacking him a few times he realized it was his own fault. but parts wise for a 1g gst I have a stash of parts I went threw last night seeing what I might try and get rid of seeing how all my stuff is for a 6 bolt and the galants are 7 bolt. arp mains/rod bolts, acl tri metal bearings mains/rods, 2g exhaust mani, 2g o2 housing, extremepsi balance shaft removal kit, 550 injectors, greddy fmic, full gasket kit, 2g poly mounts. 2g eprom ecu, and probably alot more. I'm thinking I really need to set timeline goals, and price goals for each point I'm going for. not sure if I'm going to sell it or keep it for down the line and build a 6 bolt and just sell the whole motor.Posted 01-21-2010 at 08:26 AM by beating4g63s

I myself own a 2006 Galant with the 2.4l.I questioned the same thing,Wife won't let me.She drives it mostly.Love the car and the ride.I would go for it,it would be better than the ralliart edition with the v6.Posted 01-20-2010 at 12:04 PM by rare1

Thanks. At ~$150 each the 17x9" Cobra wheels are a great option for road racers. These came off of my 92 GSX track car so they work well for 1G cars too. The only hitch is you gotta have coil-overs for them to fit.Posted 01-19-2010 at 12:20 PM by GreenGSX

2.4 Liter G4CS build - Tranny Problems
Ok I knew the fork and the throw out bearing, I even stated that in my post didn't I? WHY YOU SO MEAN TO ME BRIAN!!!!
its the big washer that is sitting on top of the throw out bearing, the brass circular thing the clip connects to I don't know the names to. Was it a complete circle or am I finding parts to other ones that have broken?
I don't remember getting a new "throw out bearing washer" when I got my new OEM throw out bearing, I don't think it is part of the unit.
However, when I did my clutch a year back I didn't change out the clutch fork or the falcrum ball or w/e it is called. Perhaps I should this time while I got it all open and I know what I am doing (ok just know a little bit more)Posted 01-19-2010 at 12:05 PM by Atuca

My Car, My Love, My Depression and Bank Breaker Part Deux
I'm just going the Megan Racing DP with my current highflow cat welded in. V-Band the pipe after the cat, weld in a new Magnaflow 5" round muffler, use my 2 current resonators and reuse my current Magnaflow 3"/dual 3" muffler. Should be pretty quiet and seems similar to one of the setups on an exhaust thread.
Just having the speed shop do it.
I've been wanting a welder for a while as well. Lowes has a decent TIG (I think) for around $600.Posted 01-19-2010 at 09:13 AM by LiquidX

My Car, My Love, My Depression and Bank Breaker Part Deux
We don't own a welder. We have a local guy who does all our welding for us who is very good, but is a bit high in price. Overall, well worth the money spent.
A welder has been on our list for a while now though!Posted 01-19-2010 at 08:19 AM by snowborder714

The broken thing in the center looks to just be a part of the throwout bearing that has broken off.Posted 01-19-2010 at 04:50 AM by TjPhillips36

2.4 Liter G4CS build - Tranny Problems
Do you really not know the names of the pieces in the first picture?
Black thing on left - clutch fork
Black boot in top center - clutch fork boot
Wire clip in top right - throw out bearing clip
Circular thing on right - throw out bearing
Thing destroyed in center - no idea
I would recommend getting a new clutch fork, fulcrum ball, OEM throw out bearing, and tob clip. The boot can be cleaned up and reused.Posted 01-19-2010 at 04:21 AM by snowborder714
