So my last entry was awhile ago (see mod list here), and I mentioned that the next update would have dyno and timeslips so here goes.
First, the dyno. Shortly after my last update I hit the local dynojet. 23-24psi peak boost, falling to 15-16 by 6k. Running on E85. Made 321whp and 336 ft/lbs. Can't complain for a 14b on stock head/cams/intake!

As usual, I was plagued with mechanical issues at the event. On Saturday I only got one timed lap before I had to retire.
Just before this event, I had added that new valve cover with the big vents. One of those vents was routed to my exhaust using a Moroso crankcase evacuation system. Just before this event, I had installed a new valve cover with the big -10AN vents. One of those vents...

Turn you speakers down. The wind noise is pretty bad.
Central PA Region SCCA - Mid-State Airport, just north of State College.
The course on Sunday was the same course as Saturday, but backwards.
Saturday was cold, cloudy, and windy. Steady winds of 35mph with gusts over 50. It was hard to keep heat in the tires, especially with 10+min between...
After a bust dyno session last week. We headed back to the dyno at ZipTie Dynowerks last night. T. Talon ran awesome and put down 602hp/474tq at 36 psi. I'm still running the evo maf so we didn't push the boost any higher because of maf overrun. Yes, I do plan on going speed density. The car just hasn't been up and running long enough this season to get it done. The last race of the year is tonight...
There was a local club hosting a autox at the airport and I decided why not see what I could do. I hit lots of cones And dropped my times from 41 seconds to 37.35 clean. Best time was 36 DNF with 2 cones I moved the bases, and sometimes as long as it is in the chalk mark at all it is still good but they made this a real tight coarse. I was in 1st the whole time, and had a blast. I turned...

My second outing in the Talon for 2011... and it was August!
After fixing my cracked exhaust manifold and melted oil dip stick, I was ready for action.
The venue for this event was in a rather small & tight parking lot in Truro. That meant a small & tight course, which does not favor my car. It's also somewhat bumpy with lots of big dips. So I wasn't...

I've been slacking on my event reports, so I'll try to catch up.
This event was my first outing in the Talon this season. I had spent the whole preceding Saturday working on the car, trying to finish some stuff up, which spilled over to Sunday morning (details posted here). So I didn't make it to the track until the afternoon sessions.

After i got the valves replaced in the head and fixed the timing system issue that threw my belt and drove a little bit on it to finish breaking in the engine it was time for a tune.
so i drove 100 miles to Pure Tuning, in Toledo, OH and got the car tuned by Keith - who knew his crap but didn't have sufficient enough time to really get to play with tuning the car let alone finish the tune do...
Went to the track today with a nitrous tune, but the solenoid is somehow not working, so I was stuck running 11 degrees of peak timing on boost only. I ran an 11.5 at 124. And I am mad about it haha I mean yeah that is a good time for a street car, but I know what it should of done. next week....

Final event of the 2010 season. Following the dismal results of the previous event, I wasn't expecting much. My traction issues would still be prevalent due to tire age and ambient temperatures, but it would still be a fun course as it was setup on a 2.5km (1.6 mile) 11 turn road circuit.
This time temperatures were even colder... Like 9°C (48°F) cold and windy to boot. I had on...

Magic Mountain doesn't like me this year. When I attend an event there earlier this season, it was cold / wet with zero grip and I sucked; placing midfield overall. This latest event didn't go much better.
The weather was dry but the temperatures were low at 14ºC (57ºF). As I had found out at the previous SoloSprint event, my race tires no longer offer any grip due to their age &...

And that's how it ended.
The car just shut off mid run.
The timing belt has little nicks down the left side spaced about an inch apart all the way around the belt. I pulled the valve cover and nothing looks like it's out of place.
I'll do a compression test to tomorrow just to make sure. I'm pretty sure something...

I finally got back to the drag strip. It's been more than year since I've been there last. And once again, I had problems with going lean and knock.
Run 1 - 14.681 @ 89.33
Run 2 - 14.171 @ 97.48
Run 3 - 13.869 @ 95.09 --> Cut a 1.916 60' About time I had a sub 2-second one. Only difference from Run 2.
I kept trying to add fuel to lean it out, but I couldn't...

Last SoloSprint (a.k.a Time Attack) of the season. Last chance to beat my personal best.
If you recall my last report, I stripped 3rd gear while lapping at this very track about 6 weeks prior. Since then I've purchased a brand new TRE Stage 4 with all the options, as well as a rear LSD with EVO8 (clutch-type) internals and DSS 650HP rear axles. Also during the downtime I finally got...

Coming off three days of autox on PEI, I mustered up enough energy to attend the lapping day at Atlantic Motorsport Park, NS making it four days of racing in a row. Yippee!
Got to the track early and there was already a good size crowd there. Found a spot in the paddock and proceeded to swap out my brake pads. This year I've been running Carbotech AX6 on the street & autox, and...

Slalom @ Slemon. The premier event of the season in these parts.
This was a 3-day event with Friday being a Test & Tune, Saturday event #1 and Sunday event #2. Plus Monday was a lapping day at the local road course, but I'll write about that separately. All-in-all, it was four straight days of motorsports. Yay! ...

The first SoloSprint of the year!
For those that may not know, a SoloSprint (a.k.a Time Trial / Time Attack) is essentially the same thing as qualifying for a road race. You have a fixed amount of time (or laps in this case) under the clock to achieve your fastest lap time possible. But instead of determining your grid position for a race, your best lap time determines whether you've...

A full weekend of cone dodging in the sun... what more could you as for?
This a a double regional event, where competitors from the whole Atlantic region compete for points towards the regional championships. So you'd expect good representation from the four Atlantic provinces, but in reality all the competitors were from Nova Scotia and, more specifically, the Halifax host club. So...

I attended HyperFest on June 19th-20th at Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia. We would be running on Summit Point Main course. This was my first time out on a road course. I had done a couple autox's and a drag event, so I had some track experience with the car before this. But this is completely different as you're pushing your car hard for 20 minutes straight. My brother and I felt...

Why can't a guy catch a break? This has got to be my worst season start in the 10 years I've been racing...
The venue this time is a municipal airport with a 3950' x 75' runway. This usually equates to a very long / fast / open course which means big FUN! Enough fun to draw a decent crowd from the host club based 2.5 hours away. However, rain was in the forecast and some big players...

My wife thinks I’m crazy.
A couple weeks before this event I got T-boned in the Talon. Driver’s door is mangled, window is broken, and the rear quarter is pushed in. $3400 in damage, parts are on order. At least I’m not paying.
The car is still drivable. No wheel / suspension / frame damage. But the door will no longer open from the outside and it has no window. Just...

The 2010 season has begun! Yay!
Every year I tell myself that I'll start working on the car early and have it ready a good month or so before the first event. Well, the Talon never came off its jack stands until the evening before the first event of the year... As usual.
After finishing my engine swap, my goal was to have my car ready to race by the Texas Mitsubishi Shootout at the San Antonio Raceway. This gave me about 45 days from the time I first started the new engine. I had to break my block in (1,000 miles) and iron out all the wrinkles (so to speak) so that I could make some reliable passes at the shootout.
Second race into the season at Rocky Mountain Raceway and I put my Eagle Talon on the trailer, and not by its own power this time.
We've been playing with the shifter length and I've been having some issues getting into fourth gear. Well, this run I missed 4th and the motor rev'd up to about 10k-11k and hung there awhile. Motor stopped, I pulled over and was pushed off the track. We...

This was the first autox of the season I was able to attend. It's not an SCCA-sanctioned event, but it was still fun. The autox has been organized and ran by the NICO Club for the past few years.
There is a paved section on the Carlisle Fairgrounds that is used for the event, which is combined with drifting (every hour or so they switch off). The area is actually host to a few SCCA-sanctioned...
Finally got a real 10 second time slip in my Eagle Talon. Yes, I did run a 10.75 and a 10.8 at Wendover Raceway, but we don’t really count those.
Anyway, started out the night on a bad foot . . . first qualifying pass was 11.7, then a 11.3, 11.1 and then the 10.9. I stopped running after that because I’m leaking some oil from somewhere. We’ll have to get that figured out before I hit...

So my first time racing my newly built talon, and racing on the strip in general was at the 2nd Annual IndyHP Streetcar Shootout July 5th, 2009. I had a blast!!! My best run of the day was a 13.1 @ 107. I didn't win obviously but had a great time and a great experience. Here are some video links of my car from the day!
This is my first run EVER! lol nervous launch and botched 1-2 shift....

June 6th, 2009. Club DSM Fort Wayne had our first annual club dyno day. After a mad rush to get the car ready for the dyno, we made the trip to Toledo to see Keith at Pure Tuning. Great guy btw, really knows his stuff. Their Mustang 1100 AWD Dyno is not very old but we sure broke it in lol The tune was horrible when we got there, it couldn't even make a baseline run because of it lol The first baseline...
Over the weekend we took my Eagle Talon and family down to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for their Midnight Mayhem event. Car ran the same as last time - 11.2 @ 128ish (was hoping for a quicker time) but this time we got an in car video.

We got some very cool coverage in Import Tuner for the eclipse. This is the April edition that just came out. Please support the magazine for supporting us and pick it up at the newstand, its a piece of DSM history!

So ever since I got my DSM I've always wanted to take it to the track for fun.
I was convinced by a buddy of mine that I work with to go Ice-Racing.
Needless to say I had a blast, definitely a different feel racing on ice but still can't wait to go again.
Girl in the Black Car is on Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and now Facebook. I know, I know there haven’t been many updates lately, but winter =’s the suck here in Utah. It’s to dang cold to do anything! I hope to have the new bosch fuel pump and DSMLink V3 installed by March 7th. That’s the first race of the year at the Wendover raceway. Here are some videos from my trip last year to Wendover.

We won with the eclipse at Super Lap Battle finals!
Detailed writeup next week, video, all coming soon! But the quick version is we blew up a gearbox, Sam and Robert at RRE came through with one for us to use, Karlo and Nick busted ass to get it swapped in over night. We limped at minimum power and an open diff and still won by 3 seconds!

Ah, the last event of the season. And it was a doozie. An autoslalom on a road race circuit! With so much tarmac and a limited number of cones, it can only mean one thing… a FAST course.
This was a regional event which means the top competitors of the Atlantic Region were in attendance. Competition was tough and the weather conditions made it even tougher. It was dry, but quite...

This past weekend I went to the drag strip for the first time. My brother and I went with a bunch of friends yesterday to Beaver Springs. We arrived there a little before 10am. The convoy to the tracked included my GST, an '06 Evo IX, and a trailered Camaro (not sure of any details about the car). After getting the Camaro off the trailer and unpacking a few things, we went and registered. It...
It's a really good feeling getting all of the bugs worked out of a car. This was the first time I've been to an event in 3 years where the car ran really strong the whole time and had absolutely no issues (or nearly no issues). And the result was the fastest lap time of the weekend among all cars.
Of course getting ready for the event was a different story. I...
After having missed the first two NASA events of the season in the Rocky Mountain region, I finally got the car ready to go for this one. Miller is truly a world class track, only 3 years young and I wasn't about to miss the opportunity to drive it this year. I missed the only other RM NASA event there 2 years ago. I rounded up the family and we made the 10 hour haul...
