California State Referee Survival Guide: The Pull Over
Posted 06-30-2009 at 06:30 PM by BoostFrenzy
Well I am creating this as a guide for those of you that live in California (That beautiful, poor, Nazi bastard state
). Now I am only giving this to those of you that don't stupidly go flying through the streets and attracting attention that our type of cars don't need any more of. If you DO retarded things such as this, close this browser tab NOW! This isn't a cheat book for your stupidity, it's a rule/guidebook for those that have been picked upon by the local authorities. Now on with the show:
Lets start out with those flashing lights behind you. This is your plan of action:
-Reduce speed.
-Signal that you are attempting to pull off to the curb/median.
-Once the car is at the shoulder, roll down your windows (if not already), turn off the ignition (even the turbo timer) and then replace your hands at the steering wheel.
-Greet the officer NICELY no matter how shitty of a day you are having.
-He will ask for your license and registration and proof of insurance. You BETTER have them on you or you are just asking "Murphy" to kick you in the nads. You will tell the officer what you are going to do. For me, my wallet was in the center console and my registration and proof of insurance was in the glove box. So you would tell them that you are now going to reach into your center console for your wallet and then to the glove box to retrieve the others. Do so slowly and with out sudden movements.
-Now, they are going to run everything to make sure nothing is already in the system.
-Depending on what they find, determines how the next step goes. But I will continue on as if this is your first pull over.
-Now comes the pop the hood part. This is where you will have to either show them your CARB (California Air Resources Board) stickers and get off with an "over the decibel limit" ticket or have them point at all the random shiny stuff and tell them what it does. If you are highly modified, you're screwed and you should just go ahead and jump to the next blog post.
-Now they are going to explain to you what they are writing on the ticket, and if they have half a brain, they will know what they are doing and where to call to setup an appointment in the local area for you. They will assign a court and date for you.
-Now, by the time that date comes due, your ticket SHOULD be in the court system and ready to go for an extension. I personally had to keep tabs on when the ticket entered the system. They have up to one year to enter it. You can pray all you want, but it will be processed.
That is all for the pull over. A lot of things can very on what is said and asked. Just be as nice as you can be for the moment and don't act like you know the car inside and out. Knowing the car like that means you've been through it all already.

Sounds close enough. Yeah, me in the nice state of California ran into this situation a couple of times. But there are lots of variables. Pretty much if you are a d*ck to the cop. He will find the slightest reason to write something up.
I live in Fresno and there's lots of auto theft. The cops will find a reason to pull you over because it's highly involves imports. Even with carb legal parts in my car. Some of them will send you to the state ref. But when you go talk to the Highway patrol. They'll be like the cops are just pulling your chain. You don't need to go.... JESUS!!!

I believe in the no bling approach. I dont have a big ass chrome FMIC. I dont have a 5" tip exhaust catback that sticks out half a foot from the bumper. Its not as bad as having a civic or integra out here..( I have a ek9 also, but no fart can)or an Evo , they just look at those wings and start rubbing their hands together. Rice is truly rampant out here as is street racing. Beleve me that a state that has more cars than any country you can name, this is a HUGE money making situation for the state. I dont know why we even have a C.A.R.B. here
when the law enforcement do not follow their own guide lines for aftermarket parts.
like boost said, If you drive around doing burnouts and reving at lights..be prepaired for the red and blue lights.
