Rust Repair Part 4
Posted 04-25-2011 at 04:16 PM by Blurred Talon
After a whole day I've got the trunk 99% done (I need to weld in a small little patch) and the driver side rocker panel.
Copper weld through primer on everything.

Tacking in the driver side trunk patch.

Seam sealer and paint on the trunk patches.

Driver side rockers patched and seam sealed. I remade most of the lip for the wheel well, the small gap will be hidden by the skirt. I need to hit the wheel well with some rocker guard.

That's it for today.
Tomorrow I'm tackling the passenger side rockers. I'm nervous about welding over there so I might just pop rivet and seam seal it for now and have a pro do it later.
I also have to weld in the new front rad support.

Actually, you spot weld because when the molecules in the metal expand and cause the metal to warp in different spots causing it to bend and making your measurements off, and ruining your whole process. Also, its easier to grind. (i would recommend a low grit tiger paw, if your going that route). So basically i just scientifically agreed with you. I give you many props!Quote:It seals the seams between body panels, keeps water and what not out.
Sheet metal isn't continously welded, it would take too long because of the heat generated (too much heat and you wrap and burn through the metal). So everything is spot welded and then seam sealer goes on over top.
looks great.Posted 05-03-2011 at 10:05 PM by Dsm4lyfe12

I bought mine from a place that sells Auto Body Supplies. Try NAPA though, they usually have it. My welds suck but thanks.Quote:
I had the wattage down on the lowest setting, plus I was using a pretty long extension cord that wasn't made for a welder so I'm sure there was some voltage drop. It's just an older Lincoln Mig Pak 10, 110V job with no gas. It's my old man's and I've used it more then him (no clue why he owns it lol).Quote:
