Blog Title: 2.4 Liter G4CS Build
1999 GSX in Tracy, California

The is going to be a track only Road Race car. Based off the '89-'91 Hyundai Sonata G4CS engine, it is identical to a 6 bolt engine, with the exception the deck is 6mm taller and bore slightly larger, giving the extra .4 liters of displacement that will yield lower spool times. This will be perfect for a road race car where spool times are a huge factor in how fast you can get out of a corner.

At the same time this engine is being built, the car is being restored similar to how Eric and Brian restored Eric's car. Both of these gentlemen are trusted moderators of this website (turbosax2 and snowborder714) and have been a great inspiration and help to the dsm community and me. The fusebox is being relocated similarly, as well as interior rewire.

The end result I hope is a CLEAN road race car, capable of being shown at car show, but powerful enough to win races. I invision the vehicle with an interior, and a stock exterior with the only modifications being functional vents/lips/diffusers.

My goal is to have this on the track during the 2010 Race season, lets see if money stretches that far!

Well Santa came early wearing all brown!

I got my packages this last weekend and spent several hours sorting through all the parts, matching part numbers and ensuring everything turned out great. Props go out to Slowboy Racing, Kiggly, and VR Speed Factory for the great prices, and wonderful service.

Next bit of business, is with all these parts, I believe I am ready for the machine shop.

As for the engine harness, it is still coming along. I am at the point now where I am routing the locations of the wires, relocating, and planning out how and where I am going to put new plugs like Eric did. Man that guy and his bro have been so much help, another props to him on finally finishing it last weekend!!

Thats all for updates, I have questions posted in my build THREAD, feel free to swing over there if you think you can answer

This is perfect, I'm starting the same build in about 3 months....
And I just found Another g4cs, I think I will snag as a spare, since these are tough to find.

Thanks for that parts list! I'm sure I will be referring to your blogs down the road.

Just note, while this list is inclusive of all 6 bolt swap parts for this motor in a 2g, I can't be 100% it will work with anything else. It took me forever to get that list together, and looking back, its only some of the parts lol.

It was a good start though, I won't know that list is perfect until I put everything together and see if it runs :P

As long as the head and block are both resurfaced there shouldn't be an issue. Unless there is something else I am forgetting?

I use the same headgasket on all my builds. My only recommendation is spray it with a half of a can of Permitex copper spray.

Some have better luck than others with the headgasket. On low boost they are fine, Turn the wick up and they always seem to blow between the cylinders.

For that reason, I like the Felpros and Mitsu ralliart headgaskets.
